I've been meaning to make an update for a while now but I've had a lot to do. I've coded a new webpage for a local business that ate up a large part of October. I've also been working on several hacks and write ups that may or may not appear on this site. I really plan on adding alot to this site and with that I need to seriously think about getting a real server and domain name. In that light I don't like doing this but I'm adding a Paypal donation feature. Am I a cyberbegger, no, but if you like tis site and want to see it grow I ask you help me create more content. I know - I ignore most paypal donate images but seriously if you like what you see and want to see more, please donate.
- Now for the updates, quotes, the archives, Who is, all of the hacks pages - now with a tutorial section I hope to develop further, a section on the Lab links and more have been updated. Browse away.
- I'll also warn you now I'm gearing up to to a massive overhaul of the site, so don't expect many of these small updates.

I know it's been 3 months since I last updated this page but I've been busy, camp, school and hacks things like updating the site fall off to the wayside. I'll try and fix that tho'. Among other things you can now view this site at g3head.tk As proof of this I've at least updated my current page, links, systems, and the archives. The blog started to get updated with some regularity soon after I got back from camp in Auguast, but it still isn't quite daily. As i said, we'll try and fix that. Hey, at least I'm not dead.

I'm taking a job at Camp Raven Knob, a scout camp here in North Carolina. That is supposedly the second largest in the US. I still don't understand how I managed to get lucky enough to get on staff but I am and I start in about 24 hours. I might get some 'net accesss but somehow I doubt it. Even then I doubt it will be broadband (I may be wrong) anyhow don't expect major updates for a while, even this stuff was coded a couple days ago (no I wasn't expecting the job to open up). If here are they will likely be by Blog or if I get time when I'm at home here on Saturday/Sunday.
This will also be why I might not respond to emails promptly. I'm not dead, just working (if camping can be called that)

Yes, my site has been online at this address since June 10, 2002. Well more than that really, but most of that was construction. I consider June 10, 2002 to be the birth date of my site. Since I stated those pages last year its grown alot, so have I. More images, a close call with loosing it, a physical move for myself, many new sections, several more hacks - both my own and those of others, a true blog, a site meter, and over 1000 visits since I installed the meter last Fall. This won't be the end either. I hope to add CSS to more of the site, create more content, perhaps some scripts or XHTML.
For now at least many of the pages making up this site have been ujpdated in some way.

Few quick fixes, the title of my last post, a long overdue update to the wearable progress file, a correction about the Starmax (from the last update) -its a 3000, not a 4000- this was correct in the systems page for what ever reason. I also added a couple entries on my Hacks index, including 2 hacks that are being severed here for the time being (in other words-not mine).
One of these days I'm going to add a photography section, but thats not tonight.
And last but not least- one exam and its time for summer break.
- Now I know this is ATAT, you're going to make this update and disappear

Made some updates to the systems page, like adding my Starmax 4000 and 6400 (both hack candidates ATM). I also added some more links.

Sorry if you really like this content I have a lot more on the blog That, believe it or not, is at worst updated every other day, usualy daily or better. Anyways I updated my current information, the update archives, plan to prep some of the Hack pages since I'll be getting the photos of the PowerMatrix back soon. I'm still moving into a new house (the reason I didn't do this update earlier) I also has some systems to add to my list but I'm not even going to bother until I pick up enough RAM to make them useable (8MB in a 6400 is not usable) I might prep some photo and/or rant pages as well.

I know, its been a while, but I like how the blog puts stuff online so much easier than coding it in BBEdit, saving it and uploading it to the .Mac disk space. I really should see about coding it so that blog entries come up here as well as my space at blogspot. Anyways I did some more work on the projects page, adding a hack and updating the Phoenix's page. I also updated the systems page, wearable mac progress, my intersting page, and current page. Hopefuly I will do another update before another 20 days have elapsed (crosses fingers)

I did the usual 1st of the month cleaning, only I did it today- the 6th. Its been a busy week. I've done work on the Twiddler, school, camping, Flashed the Radeon, worked on a trade, and probably some other stuff that I can't remember at the moment. Anyways I've changed my current info, wearable Mac progress, Radeon flashing, systems page, and the archives. I'm about to update my search engine as well.

Yes, I still use the blog, it's easy to use. But I decided to do an update here. First off I'm tring to get my CD burner to work, and I'd know if the Phoenix's ethernet wasn't slower than a 9600 bps modem. I still haven't flashed the PC radeon, but at least I have the images online. I suspect that there are a few resistors to solder for S-Video and a few more resistors and a set of transistors to solder for DVI. There's going to be a new project page in this update. I've also been working on the Twiddler but I won't put that up until its working. No real point as most others aren't going to try it as Twiddler 1's are rare. I've also got some wearable mac stuff I might put up. Theres also a change in my current information and my intersting page.

I've been running installs most of this evening on the wearable brains, and I've got a decent list finished. The list is over in my wearable mac specs page with the hardware specs, also newly updated. Theres a bit about it in my progress section and blog. I really need to get some more of that stuff updated/finished.

I got the display, I got the powerbook, I bought the keyboard I don't have the video out.
-
Thats basicaly where the Wearable is at the moment. Much better than I was a month ago, but still a good ways away. I need to get S-Video out, batteries for the display, a totaly charged wallstreet battery (or two) and the ADB mod I need for the Twiddler. Then its off to caseing. Its getting easier, but I still have a good deal of work to do.

funny how many hackers say that, but its true, I'm into the drive of the PBFH right now, and have a plan of action that should get me a wearable ready system by 5 PM EST. While the files are moving I'm doing updates to this page, wearable progress, and current. Oh, and by the way I'm doing most of my updates in my blog, just like I said last week.

This format with most updates in my blog really makes this a weird situation but I'll keep it up for the site part of things. Maybe can cook up a new format for this page that links directly to my blog's page. We'll see. Any ways I did My usual archiving, being the first of the month, and made some changes to my current page since I've done more work on the PBFH and finished Pattern Recognition. I really need to do some site changes anyhow...

Other than that The PBFH is still broken, I think I'm going to have to go find my PB SCSI adaptor and then use the under estimated SCSI Disk mode to dig into the PBFH's system folder, then see if I can't plant some VNC and modified prefs to get to the guts of the problem. But I can't find my adaptor so I might have to jerry rig something- well thats why I've got wire isn't it? There will be some updates in wearable progress. Maybe I'll get around to futzing with Blogger as well...
- Its Friday already? But I've got class in the morning!

Man this week has draged on, and on, and on. And I still have to go to school tomorrow. Stupid Saturday School. Theres just something wrong with not getting an entire weekend of break. I've got some more on the PBFH but that can wait until later, like when I wake up about 3 PM tomorrow. There's a brief change in my current page as well, I somehow managed to get in a viewing of "The China Syndrome" since my last update.

Big supprise its snowing, again. They say its going to snow a lot too (yet another big supprise). Thing is that I can't tell if theywant to close down because of the Daytona 500 or because theres white stuff on the ground. Oh well I could careless.
-
Now for what really matters to me hacking. The PBFH is (boy I've got lots of supprises today don't I?) still not working. It beeps but still no dice when it comes to beeping or coming up with a smily mac. Maybe I'll swap some of the other parts back in. The other fun thing I'm doing is more plasma ball research. Maybe if it ever isn't snowing I'll go dig up a dead plus and scavenge the flyback transformer and place the order from digikey for some other parts then make it. Test one with a lightbulb then see about taking my pile of Dr. Enuf bottles to one of the neon places in town and have them seal and fill them with neon. Couple of contacts and it should look cool. Maybe I'll cook up a plasma page for my projects collection. Theres just someing excessivly cool about superheated gasses.

I could swear that this is the day (or week pretending to be a day) that just won't end. Since 6 AM (EST) yesterday to at least 11 today I feel like I've just been going and going and going and going. Yesterday was a 6 AM to must-have-been-1AM-when-I-gave-up-and-collapsed with barly any chances of unwinding online and today I felt like the living dead. Still working on a few deals and with luck I'll get a couple finalized soon. Theres also an eBay auction that looks useful. Once I do all that I'll mess with updating my systems page (should be some nice changes) assuing I don't get killed by those who think my collection is dumpster worthy.
- From a couple of checks on the PBFH it still isn't booting. Big supprise - it's close but just won't turn over. Somehow I've also managed to finish voice training ViaVoice (or at least read all the provided texts). I'll see if I can't get some decent dictation now, at least when theres no one in the house to call me crazy. Somehow talking to a computer is worst than talking to a TV < rolleyes >
-
Just thought I'd make an update, now if you'll excuse me I plan to go collapse somewhere.
- A snow day with a new PMU
-
2-10-03
-
I'm starting to think that the administartion of my school district can be removed due to incompetidence- today they called school becasue more snow fell- but almost none of it messed up the streets. Oh well I guess a half day of school is better than a whole day- even if it is on a Saturday :P.
-
On a much better note I got the PMU replacement today and once I found it I got it installed. And it can get me a chime. Hoooray! Bad news is the power connection is to put it mildly tempremental. More to check out I guess.
- Its Sunday afternoon already?!?!
-
2-9-03
-
This 3 and a half day weekend has blown away in a big way. I got the PMU for the PBFH (paid fr and in shipping), I'm setting up another trade (2 in a week), made an offer on a pair of rare clones, got a mic for ViaVoice, checked out some CD-R drives, picked up a Wired, 2600 and a couple of William Gibsons and watched Hackers. And thats just everything I can completly relate to Technology.
-
Then theres the sleeping, the eating, volenteering, watching TV, and everything else. Maybe it's just cause I haven't slept in past noon for a week.
-
Some new stuff in the wearable Mac progress section, wearable wanted, and current information.
- Redemtion is near (I think)
-
2-6-03
-
Ok so it did end up snowing today (but not until 6 PM if you care) But the time off did allow me to get the PMU card I needed for the PBFH so its redemption might be nearing. No I'm not religious but seeing as I've called it the Powerbook from Hell for about three months now it seemed to be the right word.
-
In anycase I'm going to send the funds tommarow and hope to get the card early next week. And thats a good thing. Theres also an update in my Wearable Mac progress log reflecting the purchase and some other minor things that happened today.
- And its not even messy this time 'round
-
2-6-03
-
Yep, my school let out early today and there isn't anything falling. At least last week there was some sleet coming down when we let out but still. I know the forcast and I doubt I'll have class tommarow but come on there isn't supposed to be anything until late afternoon. If this keeps up for every Thursday in winter...
- A New Hope for the PBFH
-
2-5-03
-
I think I might know whats wrong with the PBFH, and hope to get it remedied soon. I'm also doing a trade- Giving up my only working color 'book for a large pile of stuff, including 4 BW 'books- 100 up to a 165, 3 Powermacs- 2 x100s and a Starmax that would fit the Gibson style server hack I've been wanting to do and an Apple Workgroup Server 80 with A/UX. Still I don't know how fair a trade it is I really like the 540c/PPC.
- Oh and the locals are freaked out about snow again. I think it's tradition to have some substancial storm on Thursdays in winter. If the one they say will hit does it will be the 6th thursday storm in 6 weeks (for those who don't have a calender laying around that leads back to the first Thursday since the first day of winter) On the other hand they've run out of national holidays and I REALLY don't like Saturday School.

It's a shame, today about 9:16 AM EST the space shuttle Columbia exploded. I'm a person who sees benifits in space exploation, and this isn't just a loss of life or national treasure- this means a possibly long delay in space exploration. Appolo 1's fire (on a Jan 27 in the 60s), The challenger incident (a Jan 28 in the 80s) and today's disaster all in the same week. I'd hate to be fling in space on the last week of January during the 2020's.

I know, its weird isn't it. Oh well, I downloaded MindControl a text command launcher that comes up with a hot key. I'd used it before but I'm starting to do some GUI planning for the wearable. Speeking of which I hooked up the Canon GT-270s to the Phoenix via a scan converter and have been playing with it some (in case you haven't made the connection I'm doing the GUI stuff since I have the Phoenix hooked up to the displays)
-
MindControl is pretty cool, I'm still setting it up but so far so good. I'll try and do something on it this weekend.

Why not, I'm changing the format and you've already seen it. Since I'm getting better about updating and uploading at the same time I probably ought to get rid of the update/upload right?
-
Or maybe the sleet just got to me. Nice little early out but I don't see myself sleeping in tommarow morning- at least not much.
- In either case I think I'm now going to swap out the PMU in the PBFH, and see if that does the trick.

No tools and no project make me go crazy. The wearable is at a standstill for at least most of today and tommarow since no one delivers on Sundays and I've most likely got school on Monday. The TiNewt is held up because of 3 screws that are either stripped or way too tight. No ammount of coaxing could convince them to come out. Then there was the horrid attempt at tring to open up a 12" LC monitor that just didn't want to open up. So much for seeing it I could make a decent monitor for the Phoenix. 4 day weekend and nothing to do. Fun.
-
Did a couple quick updates to my current page, removing the books I finished eariler this week (The Art of Deception) and the middle of last week (Catch-22). As well as noting some of the bad action movies I watched today (Fortress 2 and Mission Impossible 1)
-
Nothing much planned for the rest of today, Sleep (this is being written at 2:22 AM EST), be bored, and then eat food while mindlessly watching the superbowl. Nothing great. Maybe if I get bored I'll upload the art I did a couple nights ago. Binary Apple art from ASCII all badly done in Photoshop with some layer effects to make it look cool.

I'm getting the processor card I think I need for the PBFH. Its currently in shipping as is the hard drive I traded for it. With luck It will arrive Saturday so when I get back from camping on Sunday ( this is assuming that the group I'm going with don't wimp out at sight of snow) I'll be able to fight with the PBFH some more. Unfortunaly I see another string of curse words in the future.
- I made the changes in the wearable wanted section to reflet that I don't need a processor card at the moment and that I don't need a battery sicne I found my brothers old one weeks ago. Theres also an update in the wearable progress section since I've got a few more ideas about input devices.

Fixed another bit of code that escaped me in yesterday's weed out. I also updated the seach engine. 36 linked pages at or above [http://homepage.mac.com/g3head/index.html], in all honesty it didn't seem like I had so many pages. On the site I have nearly 130 items used taking up 12.1 MBs of storage. Its kinda cool how a site grows like this. Then again I think its been said better- "Oh what a tangled web we weave"

Nothing else really, looked at some houses today so I can get out of this rental and into a place with a workshop so I can hack again.

My code is getting sloppy, I've just gone into each page with a browser and BBEdit and I had to fix all but 3 pages with some little fact. Mostly the footers I have on each page but some had some big errors. Oh well I'm the better for it.

Snow is a funny thing, even when forcasted it creates mass panic, a little rain no problem but a little snow and its time to ravage the nearest store. Not like I'm complaining, I mean I got a free day off because theres this white stuff on the ground, making it a nice 4 day weekend of complete and total boredom. Still I was riding it out as I did the last storm: sandels and a T-shirt.
-
Other than that I built a simple control box (the one mentioned in the 1-14 update) basicaly a dimmer switch and a an outlet cramed into a plactic case with a total cost of say $7. After spending 30 minutes (I was wathing TV so really about 10 working time) putting it togather I had a very basic control box for any AC appliance, like a soldering iron or dremal with a bad motor control. I might do a page on it but I one have no photos and 2 wonder if its even worth coding. Maybe if its good for a temp control soldering iron. We'll see.
-
I may do some more image work on the site, but again I'll see. With any luck I'll find some sort of project to entertain the weekend.

Catch-22 was good, now if I understood it...

In any case I think i found a fix for my dremel who likes its 2 spped settings- off and wicked fast. More comming this weekend if I get the parts to fix it (and more importantly don't blow up something) if I do it right it could lead to some interesting applications for my tool collection. iCab 2.9 also came out and its fast, still sucks at CSS but its fast.
- Otherwise fixed up some code long lost in a previous update. I also added some links (how did I miss eBay and Amazon?!?!) and made a simple update to the wearable pages. Theres also a new addition to the interesting page I keep adding Catch-22.

Ahhh today was a very good day, good grades, Season premiers for Farscape and SG-1 on Sci-Fi, little homework- none if you don't count reading I was going to do anyways it was a good day. But this state (NC) is crazy, if I want to get car insurance so I can drive its going to cost me $2000 a year until I turn 25, move to a sane state or get married. Back in Iowa I might have to have paid as little as $500 (I heard 50% discounts for good grades and another 50% for filling out a driving log) Even with my good grades and willingness to fill out logs the state bans insurance carriers to provide any form of discounts to anyone under 25. Thats even dumber than the DMCA, good students are known to drive better than every other idiot out there. Then again there are people in this state that use semis to split cars in half and millionares who use part of thier $20 million lottery winnings to buy double wide mobil homes. Oh well, more reason to build the wearable I suspose I might get a lot of use out of it over the next few years assuming one of those drivers doesn't hit me with a car first.
-
Also have yet another hack idea to enhance the phoenix, namly using the backlit keyboards from the
LapZilla and a keywarrior IC to make an ADB keyboard to match to her wood plexi and metal case. As soon as my friend gets Apple Cert I should get a quote. To immitate Scotty from Star Trek "Mapping keys and making boards- thats easy, getting new Apple service parts- now thats hard."

Also did a simple update to current info, watched FailSafe after WarGames. For those of you who don't know thats four hours of nucks and war in a row.

WOW, Macworld was the best in years- and I didn't go OR see the keynote. Lots of sweet new products and from what I read- Jobs saying something along the lines of wait until new expo (hope shines on). Lapzilla (17" TiBook) is definatly drool worthy, expecialy the keyboard. The software also shows that Apple could be ready to cut any and all ties to M$.
- Now for the real news this site covers. Made some updates to my newton section, with a page created on a Newton 120. Also made some changes in current info as my english class demands I drop my Mitchnik and Med Ship to read Catch-22 for class (I have one week and to think I got it last Saturday to read on my own). The rest of my classes are bad- for the most part things the state of NC says I need to take even if I've taken the same thing in a different state. >:^ P

I did some updating today, nothing really relevent to the new year as I did that back on 2002. I've added some more content to my interesting page, added a current info page with some of the books I'm reading and movies I've watched (If I update it or not remains to be seen...) I also started on a hack that was fairly simple modifed a hard drive to work as a speaker. Needs an amp but I managed to get some sound. The HTML for it is up in the hacks section and I'll have photos of it sometime, maybe I'll have an AMP for it by the time I finish the roll of film the pictures are on (thats right no nasty quickcam photos this go round.) I wish I was going back to school with more done on the TiNewt but oh well, there are always weekends. I really should have the EL parts first anyways. The wearable mac has also been work on significantly but still lacks a good processor, I need to get back to checking eBay on a regular basis. I've also got a few other project ideas for the coming year so keep an eye out for them here.
