- The Phoenix
-
- The Phoenix was my first hack and was cheap enough to build. Its based on a Powermac 7200/120 that I got from a local business. When I got it, it was a bare bones system so I had to steal parts from old macs. By the time I got it to boot I had started calling it "Phoenix" after the mythological firebird that reincarnated from its own ashes.
- After deciding on the drives and parts I was going to use I still had to get a case, and being a long time fan of Applefritter.com I decided to make a case for it. When I stared on this project the LC Cube had just gone up. I had liked the idea of a low cost cube but didn't like the plywood look the LC cube had. I was determined to do a transparent cube.
- After making it I started using it as a general use computer, light web surfing, email, mp3s and a couple of games, but I started to get tired of its limited use and started to upgrade. Soon I had taken parts from other macs, an LC monitor here, a 56k modem there soon I had the specs below.
- 120 MHz 601 Power processer
- 160 megs RAM
- 6.3 gigs hard drive space by means of 4.3 gig scsi and 2 gig fast scsi
- 4x CD
- 4x write 8x read CD-R
- Kennsington 4 button mouse
- Painted extended keyboard
- 14" Radius Color Pivot Monitor
- LC 12" monitor
- PCI video card from a 9500
- Radeon 7000 PCI video card
- Custom build case from Red Oak and Acrilic Plastic
- Below are pictures of the Phoenix's painted Keyboard and a picture of the stup with the second monitor attached (sorry the lighting is bad)
The Keyboard was painted with a Black semi gloss paint for the frame and Testors Candy Apple Red Transparent Spray paint and was done after seeing Mercury on Applefritter.
- Yet another photo, this time playing with some light elements (this is after my move). Kind of dramatic so I'll post it.
