Part 2 of 3
NiftyDrop
consists of eight modules to allow a user to selectively add features to the Newton
backdrop. For example, a volume slider may be added to the backdrop screen with the Volume
Module. Modules can be resized and rearranged within the backdrop's window so you can
customize the layout. Selected modules may also be deactivated without removing the module
package. The result is a backdrop application which can be as functional or as lightweight
as you like. NiftyDrop is distributed with a collection of sample modules. These are

Backlight Plus adds additional controls to your
Newton's backlight! Now, you can have the backlight on all of the time, or from specified
times during the day! Backlight Plus also adds a button to one of the screen corners for
easy access to toggling the backlight on and off. When installed, Backlight Plus will
initially create a small button in the upper left hand corner of your Newton screen. Tap
on it to turn on or off the backlight. You can adjust Backlight Plus' preferences from

nBattleship brings to your Newton the classic
game of sink or be sunk! The object of the game is to destroy your opponent's ship before
having your ships sunk first. nBattleship for the Newton adds a variety of features to
Newton games to keep you and your opponents coming back for more! Credit: Foundation

Meetings can
be a waste of time. Often there seems to be no reason for the meeting, no agenda, and the
person running the meeting is frustrated because they are not accomplishing what they
want. Meetings In Hand (MIH), by prompting you through the most important steps in
meeting preparation, will help you to prepare for and run meetings that will have
participants saying that your meetings are worth their time. This version fixes a few bugs
from previous efforts and includes compatibility with LunaTech's LunaSuite! Credit: Burr
Oak Software.
PrintLink V1.0 for Newton is a utility that
allows the Newton to use your PC as a print gateway. As a result, your Newton will be able
to take advantage of the hundreds of Windows 95/NT compatible printers. Credit: PDA

A Telnet client for the Newton platform that fully supports NIE 2.0 (and
Ethernet connections), PT100 also is a very complete and functional VT100 terminal
emulator. The latest beta includes logon scripting functionality, improved user
options and a few fixes! In addition, this version of PT100 will run up to 60%
faster than the 1.01 beta release. The versions here are shareware, and will only
support sessions of 5 minutes or less; full versions can be purchased directly from the
developer (contact info enclosed in the files below). Credit: Scrawl Software.
Announce is a cure for the "Text to Speech
Envy" suffered by MP 120 and 130 owners! While Announce does not do true TTS (that's
in the works right now), Announce does talk. On startup, a pleasant male voice
announces any or all of the following: 1) Day of the Week 2) The Current Date 3) The
Current Year 4) The Current Time 5) The Time and Day of Week (if different from today) of
your Next Appointment 6) The Status of Your Battery. To configure Announce, tap the
application icon and a prefs dialog will come up.. it should be self-explanatory. Credit:

For a selected date (holiday, your birthday,
"End of World" or enter one), Ellie's Count Down (ECountDn) displays the
remaining time from now in weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds. Credit: Steve Weyer.

The Ink Spot off line news reader includes lots
of options to customize how news is received, read, sorted and deleted. There is no
artificial limit on the number of messages to be downloaded, headers may be kept or
discarded to help save space, and messages may be brought into the Newton's Notepad.
InkSpot also includes a composition feature to help news group posters count to 10 when
needed -- messages may be replied to, edited, mulled over, and sent at a later date.
The popular off line news reader was recently enhanced with improved text to speech
handling and fixes for user reported problems. The latest version fixes startup errors on
non-US Message Pads and the automatic download alarm is now removed properly when
resetting the article downloading prefs to defaults. Credit: DejaVu Software.
