With the Soup Transport application you can send soups, the Newton equivalent to files, using email or beam. If you have other transports installed, possibly you can make use of them too.
Please make a backup first. It's always a good idea to backup your device before you install a new program. Even if we have tested all of our programs very intense, because of the variety of existing programs and system configurations no one can guarantee that no problem will occur.
Transfer the SoupTransport.pkg file to your Newton OS device by using an appropriate package installation program, like NBU, NCU or the Newton Package Installer.
Start the Soup Transport application by tapping its icon in the extras drawer.
Select the desired soup first. Below the table the number of entries (records) and there size will be displayed.
To send the soup, please choose the appropriate action from the action picker.
On the receiver site the data resides in the InBox until you choose to put it away by tapping the Put Away button. Because it is possible that the soup and/or some entries already exists you can choose what to do in such cases.
Firstly you have to select the store where the soup should be stored. You do this by tapping the desired store in the list.
Secondly you must decide what is to do if the soup already exists. You can choose to abort the whole operation, append the new data to the existing soup or replace the entire soup. The default after installing Soup Transport is 'Abort'. Soup Transport will remember you last setting over the time.
At last you have to decide what to do with an entry which have an ID that already exists in the destination soup. You can leave out the entry, assign a new ID to that entry or you can replace the existing entry with the new one. The default after installing Soup Transport is 'Leave out'. Soup Transport will remember you last setting over the time for that too.
Transports other than email and beam may or may not work. Its up to you to test this.
Depending on your email program it is possible that you will see a textual statistic of the soup or not. We have provided this information always but not all email clients can display them.
Before you have registered Soup Transport the program will run for 7 days only.
If you start Soup Transport after installing it on your Newton OS device the registration screen appears. (If you wish to test the program only, simply dismiss the registration screen by tapping the close box.)
Enter your Registration Number and tap on "Register". The Registration Number will contain numbers only. You can double tap the input line to display the numeric keyboard.
To get a registration number you have to pay the registration fee of $15. You can do this online via
or using Newton Register by tapping on the "Use Kagi" button. As note please enter the name as given in the Owner Info settings or the Serial Number as shown in the registration slip (not the one from the back of your Newton). We will send you your Registration Number per email within the next few days.
