Software I Recommend

All of the software below is Mac-only, with the exception of Gradekeeper which is cross-platform. I'm recommending these applications because they are all high-quality programs produced by fairly small companies (in some cases only one or two persons). I like working with companies such as these because customers usually have direct access to the developers who tend to respond to inquiries fairly quickly.

Accordance Bible Software
Hands down, the best Bible software on any platform, for any level of study. Accordance is completely modular so you can add what you want as you need it.

Bookends Reference Management Software
If you're familiar with EndNote, check out Bookends. This software is fantastic for keeping up with bibliographic references. Usually it can be purchased in a package with Mellel (below).

Mellel: The Word Processor for OS X
I've dumped MS Word for Mellel. It is the best academic word processor on the Mac. Unicode fonts are handled without worry, and right-to-left languages such as Hebrew are supported as well. Integrates well with Bookends (above)

RapidWeaver
What iMovie and iDVD are to video production, RapidWeaver is to web design. Create impressive looking websites quickly and easily. Knowledge of HTML is not necessary, but if you know it, you can still use it.

Gradekeeper
She's not pretty but she works hard. I've been using this software since the late nineties for tracking grades of my students. The interface is no-frills, but the software is powerful. Includes full ability to set weights and percentages, and even allows export to HTML and handhelds (Palm and PocketPC).

Oh, and My Dirty Little Secret

Kathy surprised me with a little gift recently because I had completed comps and my prospectus. All things in moderation, of course, but the best stress relief therapy I've found so far...
