Graffiti closes West Coast port

A message about nitroglycerin and President Bush found scrawled in the hold of a cargo ship just in from Guatemala shut down a Southern California deep-water port for several hours Monday, but federal investigators found no explosives.

The harbor in Ventura County was closed just before noon after a dockworker discovered the writing in the hold of the ship, which was carrying a load of bananas, said Will Berg, the port’s marketing director.

Federal authorities said it was written in English and read: “Nitro + glycerin my gift for G. W. Bush and his Jewish gang.”

If someone with a magic marker in the hold of a banana boat can throw this much panic into Homeland Insecurity — imagine what would happen if one of these courageous bureaucrats took a walk through one of our urban Edens of poverty.
