ChatBuddy 1.60 is a full IRC client for the Newton. This update corrects
a number of bugs in previous versions of the software, as well as adding a
"minimize" button and some additional commands. ChatBuddy requires Newton OS 2.0
and runs on MP130, MP2000, MP2100, and eMate 300 devices. While its not required, using
NIE 2.0 is recommended, as well.
ChatBuddy supports most IRC commands and is compatible with almost all IRC servers. It
features features resizeable windows, parental controls, full keyboard support, and allows
connections to both multiple channels and multiple servers. It also supports DCC (direct
client connection) transmits and receives of messages and files during IRC sessions for
collaborating with others.
CIS Retriever Manual - Cis Retriever is a Newton Client for Compuserve,
by Black Labs, Inc. With CIS Retriever, you can access CompuServe mail, forums, news and
stock quotes right from your Newton. Being a demo version, a few functions have been
disabled such as the ability to keep and send messages. You are able to log on to
CompuServe, browse the CIS Retriever areas, keep the first message of a forum section, and
create new messages. There are two manuals accompanying this demo. They built into Common
Ground viewers; one for Mac and one for Windows. You can view the manual on your computer
and print them out. This file contains the manual only, in Common Ground format.
ConnecTalk - This utility pops up a menu of names of local talk
connections (the same list as if you choose Connection, Localtalk, and Choose Macintosh).
Tapping an item opens the connection. Tapping off the menu opens the Connection app at the
view that lets you tap "More Choices".

EasyConnect 2.0 is a MessagePad terminal emulator
for Newton OS 2.0. Easy Connect offers easy to use standard TTY and ANSI based emulation.
Martinez's terminal emulator is one of the most full-featured products in its class. Both
modem and serial connections and a local echo option are suppored in the latest version!

HelpURL - shows how to add URLs to an about box and create a dynamic
help book from HTML. This works best with Newt's Cape installed on NOS 2.0 (though it will
also work on 1.x). You can develop an About Box with URLs. Use the protoAboutText object.
Modify text, viewFont, etc. as appropriate. Text slot can contain simple HREF expressions
only (see example). (For 1.x compatibility, use short lines with no wrapping.) This is
processed at compile-time.
Hemlock is a freeware internet meta-search program for the Newton which is compatible
with plug-ins originally made for the Sherlock(tm) search tool for MacOS(tm) 8.5.
Using these plug-ins, Hemlock allows the user to simultaneously search on-line merchants,
news organizations, search engines, even top-ten lists, then tabulate and neatly display
the results in a scrolling overview list. Clicking on any result in the list launches the
appropriate web page. Hemlock requires NewtonOS 2.x and recent versions of Newt's
Cape (a Newton web browser) in order to run. Credit: Sean Luke.
The Ink Spot off line news reader includes lots
of options to customize how news is received, read, sorted and deleted. There is no
artificial limit on the number of messages to be downloaded, headers may be kept or
discarded to help save space, and messages may be brought into the Newton's Notepad.
InkSpot also includes a composition feature to help news group posters count to 10 when
needed -- messages may be replied to, edited, mulled over, and sent at a later date.
The popular off line news reader was recently enhanced with improved text to speech
handling and tons of fixes for user reported problems. Credit: DejaVu Software.
NetHopper 3.2 for Newton is an easy-to-use mobile
Web browser and is currently bundled on the two leading Newton-based devices (the Apple
eMate 300 mobile educational computer and the MessagePad 2100 and 2000 handheld Internet
device). By using NetHopper you can browse the Web from any location at any time...even
wirelessly! For enterprise customers, the NetHopper product is often used to tap into
their corporate Intranet. NetHopper 3.2 is now graphical, supports Basic Authentication
and HTTP Proxies. NetHopper supports many standard HTML (hypertext markup language)
features. The most useful is the forms feature - which means that users can submit
information on-line. For example, a user can trace a Federal Express package, order
flowers through FTD Internet, make airline and hotel reservations, or get up-to-the-minute
stock information. NetHopper has been designed for easy customization and has been
modified to support a variety of vertical market applications for wireless data services.

Netlook 1.01 - Netlook lets you build a soup of NBP entities you can get
the Newton Mini-Chooser to search for. The entity records can be mailed, beamed, printed
or faxed although none of these have yet been tested and probably fail horribly. There are
a couple of other programs that do similar things to Netlook, but I wanted the practice
programming and I wanted to make it nice and easy to configure. There is also a certain
amount of use in being able to mail or beam (I hope) the records to other people.
Net Poll 1.0 - also known as NetNames AppleTalk Poll is a simple to use
network diagnostic utility that displays and polls named devices on AppleTalk. NetNames
has been on many 'Best Newton Shareware' lists. It is useful for Network system
administrators to troubleshoot AppleTalk networks. Newton users trying to print or use the
Connection Kit, Newton Backup Utility or the Newton Package Downloader over an unknown
network. Users setting up Wireless Network devices. In order for the Connection Kit,
Newton Backup Utility or the Newton Package Downloader to display an AppleTalk name, they
must be setup for AppleTalk and be "waiting for the Newton". Otherwise they will
not register their name on the network, and NetNames will not see them. This version is
for 1.x Newton OS users.

NewtFTP is a Newton-based
FTP client that supports file uploading and downloading (PUT and GET FTP commands),
directory maintenance (e.g. make a new directory, rename, delete, etc.) and installation
of Newton packages directly via FTP. This version has been significantly enhanced.
It requires Newton OS 2.0, and operates on MP130, MP2000, MP2100, and eMate 300 Newton
devices. While it works with NIE 1.0, NIE 2.0 is also recommended. Credit: Tactile

NIE is networking software that runs allows
Newton users to connect to the Internet and TCP/IP-based intranets. NIE supports either a
modem-based dial-up connection (e.g. from an Internet Service Provider) or a LAN-based
connection (e.g. an ethernet or LocalTalk network).Users will use NIE in conjunction with
Internet applications such as a web browser, e-mail software, or other internet
application software.
