If you are already using PocketMoney on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android device then skip ahead to the PocketMoney Syncing
section to transfer all your data in PocketMoney on your iOS/Android device to PocketMoney Desktop.
If you are a new user, then the first thing you'll want to do is create a new account.
You can either choose New Account from the Accounts menu, or use the Account button to create your first account.
You must enter an unique account name, but for the rest of the information you can enter as much or as little information as you want.
Account Info section has more details about all the account info options.
- Click on the account in the Account List Column (left hand column).
This displays your register for the account in the middle column.
- Create your first transaction. Choose New Transaction from the Transactions menu, click the +
button in the bottom bar, or use the keyboard shortcut cmd-N.
- See the Samples section for creating opening balances for your accounts and for sample transactions.
When you start tracking your finances you need to understand the 3 basic types of money flow.
- Deposits (credits) increase your net worth. Receiving your paycheck.
- Withdrawals (debits) decrease your net worth. Buying food.
- Transfers shift money between between accounts and therefore have no affect on your net worth.
Transferring money from your checking account to your Visa account to make your money credit card payment.
