Sweden opening embassy in "Second Life". Har-har!

Sweden is soon to become the first country to have a government-sanctioned virtual “embassy” in the virtual world of Second Life.

Sweden is soon to become the first country to have a government-sanctioned virtual “embassy” in the virtual world of Second Life. The embassy will be built and run by the Swedish Institute, an entity run by the Swedish Foreign Ministry and who is in charge of promoting tourism to the country. The Second Life embassy will be there to provide information about Swedish culture and history, as well as suggestions for places to visit in the (real-life) country.

The Swedish Institute hopes that the virtual embassy will be modeled after the newly-opened House of Sweden in Washington DC, and has it begun formal negotiations with its architect, Gert Wingårdh, for rights to create a digital version of the building.

Now, you can take a virtual test drive in the next generation of virtual Volvo — instead of forcing yourself to travel all the way to Sweden.
