++VolumeŠ v2.01 by DMP Systems ----------------------------- ++Volume (copyright 1996,1997 by DMP Systems, hereafter referred to as +V) is an Extension for Newton MP2000. the will give louder Touch Tones for dialing with the speaker. +V v2.x will only run on a Newton with version 2.1 of the O/S ( MP2000) and has not been tested on the eMate. For MP120 / 130's that use Newton O/S 2.0, use +V version 1.12. For Newton's that have v1.x O/S. use the application Password Dial to get your dialing touch tones louder. +V works by overriding an internal Newton operating system function. For some reason, when Newton dials a phone, Newton sets the volume very low. No matter what volume level you have set, Newton temporally changes it when dialing ! ++Volume corrects this deficiency. How to install ++Volume ---------------------- Use the Newton Back Utility or Newton Connection Utility or Newton Package Installer for installing +V. Install it to Internal Memory. If you do not install +V to internal memory (and there is no reason that you shouldn't as that's where Extensions should be put) and then if you remove the card, Newton will ask for the card back. But at least in NOS 2.x, it does this gracefully. Heap Space used by ++Volume --------------------------- +V uses about 816 bytes of your precious heap (frames) memory to install a patch to the O/S. Registering ++Volume -------------------- +V will work in your Newton for 45 days after you first install it. If you do not register it, then after 45 days it will stop working. After 30 days, +V will randomly announce (by voice) that it is not registered. This gives you plenty of time to see if it works for you and register it. The registration fee if $10 USD. If you have ever registered any other shareware programs from DMP System, the fee is $5 USD, however the $5 fee must be sent directly. No Compuserve SWREG or Register to avoid their processing fees. When you send the registration fee, DMP Systems will send you the unlock code. Use the ++VolumeRegister application to enter the code. Your Newton's Owner -> Name is used to generate the code. The CIS SWREG ID # is ??? (not yet assigned, email me for it). The Kagi Register ID is S5 , which identifies DMP Systems as the payee. If using Newton Register, please fill in the amount of $10.
