Mailing Labels v1.1 --------------------------------------------------------------------- copyright 1996 Stand Alone, Inc. NOTE: This software is for Newton 2.0 and 2.1 Newtons ONLY. * What's it do? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Mailing Labels allows you to print out mailing labels from your Names File, either one at a time or for a selection of names. * What's in this archive? --------------------------------------------------------------------- There is one Newton software packages and two text files in this archive. They are: * Labels.txt document you're now reading. 'Nuff said. * Labels.pkg software package you'll install on your Newton. * SAStuff.txt A list of all Stand Alone products. * Installing Mailing Labels --------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, you must get the Mailing Labels software package onto your Newton. You can do this using the Newton Connection Utility (for Mac or Windows), the Newton Package Downloader, or the Newton Backup Utility. See the documentaion with each of these for more information on installing packages with them. * Using Mailing Labels --------------------------------------------------------------------- Once Mailing Labels in installed, go to your names file and select either a name or group of names (in the overview, for example), and select "Print Names" from the action button. The "Format" menu will now have an extra selection, "Mailing Labels". Select this, and the Maling Labels selection screen will appear. From this screen you can select which label printing should begin on (for situations in which a page of labels has already been partially used), how many repetitions should be printed (each name will be printed on this many labels...so 3 would result in 3 copies of each mailing address, and the label dimensions. From the label type menu, you can choose from of the standards given, or create a custom setup. If you choose to create a custom setup, you will have to specify label dimensions, Inter-label spacing, Page Edge margins, header and footer sizes, and the number of labels per page. All of these are pretty self explanatory, with the exception of headers and footers. If you have a page of labels with uneven spacing at the top and bottom, you'll need to set a header for the page, or, if the bottom is offset more than the top, a footer. To do this, measure the top and bottom margins of the page, and then find the difference between the two. The smaller margin should be entered as the Vertical Margin for the page, and the difference will be either the header or footer. Don't worry if this is a bit confusing...chances are you won't have to worry about it. Each time you print labels, the label position screen will appear, so that you can select a new starting label each time. * Registering Mailing Labels --------------------------------------------------------------------- You have a 30 day trial period in which to examine Mailing Labels, during which it will function fully.
