Struggle with the OS till all the things
that claim to "need" it are finished with it. Curse the people who
didn't put an "unmount" command in the Card manager.

Then, hold the pen down along the left edge of the display--about a
half-inch in from the edge of the screen. Insert the card. When you
see a dialog asking if you want to activate its packages, choose "no".

(This works for the whole system if you do it when you reboot--you're
asked about the internal packages as well as the ones on cards.)

~ Kiran <entropy@io.com>
- --
 <http://www.io.com/contradance/> 1628 5th St NW Wash DC 20001 (202) 483-3373

------------------------------

Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 01:59:10 -0500
From: Bill Davis <newton@ecity.net>
Subject: Re: Ntlk Re: Doonsbury cartoons

>How many of them are in the ROMs as Easter Eggs?
>
>Jim

None. BUT....Gary Trudeau apparently did a special cartoon for certain
specific Newton models (I think only the 130 and perhaps the 2000; my
2100 doesn't have it). It does look at lot like the last frame of one of
the original cartoons, though.

As I recall, the egg is found by writing "Egg Freckles" in the Notes
application and then tapping the "Assist" icon.

Someone (Avi Drissman?) did a special package that added this cartoon to
Newtons that don't have it, or perhaps re-enabled the easter egg...can't
recall for sure though; it's late, I'm going to bed. I'm sure someone
else here remembers where it is and will chime in with the answer.

  'Nite all!

 - Bill Davis
Visit my new Newton web site, NewtInTouch at
   http://george.ecity.net/~newton/
or my nifty new, easier-to-remember address:
   http://surf.to/NewtInTouch/
It's new, so there are still some raw edges.
Let me know what you think

------------------------------

Date: Thu, 08 Apr 1999 16:04:10 +0900
From: "Ted Mills" <tmills@gol.com>
Subject: Re: Ntlk Re: Hitchhikers' Guide

> Hi,
>
> I found a package called "Don't Panic" (I think that was the original
> title of HGTG) somewhere, I'll put it on my web site tomorrow if anybody
> want's it.
Yes, please!!

- --

Ted Mills

------------------------------

Date: Thu, 08 Apr 1999 02:18:39 -0600
From: "Sean Sackett" <cyberleader@earthlink.net>
Subject: Ntlk Re: Hitchhikers Guide

> On Thursday, April 8, 1999 7:50:08 AM, someone claiming to be Paul
> Nuernberger wrote in a message entitled: re: Ntlk Re: Hitchhikers Guide:
>
>> This a newtonbook formatted version of Douglas Adams' hilarious book (of same
> name), and was last available through Newton Versions www.dnug.dk/versions/
> , although it may be
>> available elsewhere.
>>
> I checked the Newton versions website but unable to find the Hitchhikers
> guide. Switch it off. It might be that the LCD driver circuits get
blown-up by the additional current they have to feed through the mostly
conducting liquid. A good means to remove the liquid is the paper from a
newspaper or Kleenex. It goes many cm's into the gap and takes out a lot of
the liquid.

With best regards / Mit freundlichen Gruessen

Marco Mailand

Paul Scherrer Institute, http://www.psi.ch
Swiss Light Source, http://www.psi.ch/SLS
My page: http://slsbd.psi.ch/~mmailand

------------------------------

Date: Thu, 08 Apr 1999 11:08:28 +0200
From: Marco Mailand <Marco.Mailand@psi.ch>
Subject: Re: Ntlk Other - liquid under casing

At 22:17 07.04.99 +0200, you wrote:
>was what I wanted to know, that the screen and the top
>part of the housing can't be separated.
For the MP2k I would suspect that the display can be unmounted from the top
part of the case. As I opened my MP2k1 last week I had a look for how to
dismantle everything and found that one must really unmount everything in
order to unscrew the top half of the case. I was close to that point and
had the top case fixed at only one or two screws. In order to release those
I would have to remove the RAM module, which was the only reason for me to
stop at this point (w/o recent backup as usual...).

With best regards / Mit freundlichen Gruessen

Marco Mailand

Paul Scherrer Institute, http://www.psi.ch
Swiss Light Source, http://www.psi.ch/SLS
My page: http://slsbd.psi.ch/~mmailand

------------------------------

Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 11:18:02 +0200
From: roberto ferrucci <robfer@tin.it>
Subject: Ntlk Pocket Call

Is there anyone using pocket call?

Please let me know, thanks, Roberto Ferrucci

------------------------------

Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 11:19:44 +0200
From: roberto ferrucci <robfer@tin.it>
Subject: Ntlk Pocket Call

Is there anyone using pocket call?

Please let me know, thanks, Roberto Ferrucci

------------------------------

Date: Thu, 08 Apr 1999 05:22:03 +0000
From: Jim Witte <witte_j@cc.denison.edu>
Subject: Ntlk Cleaning the lint-free cloth...

How does one clean a lint-free camera cloth?
