The same thing happened to me when I read
the original post. I couldn't believe I couldn't find it, and then I tried
the extras drawer. Any way the Sony seemed to operate
and charge the Newton.
It would be nice if a more knowledgable person cold advise us on this.
I would shy away from using a multi power supply as these can accidently
be
changed in both voltage and polarity.
___________________________________________________________________________

You do run a risk of burning out the adapter if the Newton were to try to
draw more current than the adapter could supply. Whether or not this
actually happens depends, in part, on the quality of the adapter. The MP2K
seems happy to work with the old adapter which only supplied 0.5A (500 mA),
although it takes considerably longer to recharge the batteries. Possibly
either the Newton or its adapter somehow protects against excessive current
draw.

I agree with what you say about using a multi-voltage generic adapter.
Another consideration is that generic adapters may not be well regulated for
voltage output. Moderate variation of voltage is generally not a problem,
but a poorly regulated adapter might allow high voltage spikes to reach your
Newton.

--Mark

------------------------------

Date: Sun, 15 Aug 1999 10:27:06 -0400
From: "Donald E.
