AddressAccess ============= - the faster card file - Version 1.61e - 20.06.96, by Thorsten Lange, Hamburg, Germany copyright 1995-1996 Thorsten Lange and his licensors. All rights reserved. This short text is dedicated to those people who normally do not read any documentations or ReadMe files ;-) It contains some valuable hints for using AddressAccess. Note: The latest version of AddressAccess (and of my other utils) can be found at my hompepage http://pobox.com/~bnet/thorsten Installing AddressAccess ------------------------ AddressAccess consists of two packages. For Newton OS1.x (V1.11 or better) please install: "AA_OS1.pkg" and "AA_Ext.pkg". And for Newton OS2.0 please use: "AA_OS2.pkg" und "AA_Ext.pkg". "AA_Ext.pkg" ist an extension, that doesn't show up in Extras in NOS1.x. In NOS2.0 it will be located in the "Extensions" folder. It's best to install both packages on the same store. Never remove the extension while AddressAccess is open (even wait a minute after you have closed it). Configuration ------------- There are quite a few usefull options in the "Preferences" dialog ("i"/"Prefs"). The most important one is for building indexes to allow sorting/searching by first name, last name or by company. Just select the indexes needed and press "Update". Please be sure to have inserted your RAM-card (if you have any) so it can be updated to. Nearly at the end of the prefs-window (use the scrollers at the right hand side!) there is a checkmark that enables opening AddressAccess when tapping the "Names" silkscreen button. A very usefull option is "Auto-Shift". After a configurable delay the Shift-key will be pressed so the next character you enter on the keyboard will clear the input field (since by default capital letters replace the search text entered so far). Finally you should optimize the search delay so you can enter multiple characters before AddressAccess starts searching. The delay is the time AddressAccess waits after each character entered. I'll recommend setting it at 1/3 from the left edge. BTW: There are also some usefull options for customizing the dialing behaviour ("i"/"Dialing Prefs.")! Registration ------------ The positive feedback I received so far encouraged me to spend a lot of time working on AddressAccess to improve it step by step. By now it has become an indespensible tool for quite a few users and hopefully you'll be one of them, too. So please register your copy if you use AddressAccess regulary. You won't get the reminders anymore and I'll get motivated for new improvements. Registration is easy and not expensive: Just send me a letter containing US$25 (or the equivalent amount in your local currency) together with your name as written in your Newton's owner info and I'll return the code number. My address is: Thorsten Lange Tivoliweg 7 21079 Hamburg GERMANY *** Please send only cash and no cheques to this address *** If you prefer paying by US check or credit card you can use "Newton Register" by Flash Sheridan and send to registration to Kagi. Or If you are a CIS member you can use GO SWREG, ID 9876 to register for US$25. Please use the exact owner name (for the registration code) in the SWREG procedure. BTW: The registration includes the right to use all future shareware versions of AddressAccess! For more informations about registering AddressAccess please read the enclosed file "Register", check out my homepage http://pobox.com/~bnet/thorsten or just contact me by email: 101353.2024@compuserve.com or Thorsten_Lange@kagi.com Disclaimer ---------- The full disclaimer can be found in the ReadMe. The main item is that you'll use AddressAccess at your sole risk. I've really done a lot of testing but it's impossible to guarantee a bug-free software. So it's always a good idea to backup your Newton before installing new software (this certainly does not only apply to shareware).
