SKIP Version 1.0 November 19, 1993 Introducing Skip 1.0, the complete version of the first truly useful utility for the Newton MessagePad and ExpertPad. Skip is a Styles shortcut. With Skip installed, the Styles palette is always one tap away, yet Skip never gets in your way. Skip utilizes the unused space on the touchscreen which does not cover the active display. Tapping in the upper left or right corners of your screen will activate Skip and bring forth the Styles palette. To use Skip, install the appropriate Skip package with your connection kit. If you want Skip to reside in the top left corner, install "Skip 1.0L.pkg". For the top right, install "Skip 1.0R.pkg". At this time, Skip does not fully support being loaded into a ram card, so if you decide that you must keep Skip on a RAM card, be sure to turn it off before removing the card, or the Newton will ask for it back and do it itself. Once transferred, open Skip in the extras drawer and you're done; clicking in the appropriate corner will now open the Styles palette from anywhere in the Newton environment. Please distribute Skip freely, but this ReadMe file must always be included. In order to make Skip as small as possible, there is no help or 'aboutI' screen in the program. Commercial distribution is prohibited without the express written consent of the author. As of November 19th, the following organizations have this consent: America Online AMUG (The Arizona Macintosh Users Group) BMUG (The Berkeley Macintosh Users Group) CompuServe Anonymous FTP sites do not constitute commercial distribution and are therefore permissible. Skip is Shareware. If you find Skip useful (if it's still on your Newton after a week) please register your copy (and pay me for my efforts) by sending $5 to: Kevin Fox Bancroft & Telegraph ASUC Store Box #144 Berkeley, CA 94720 Include your E-Mail address to be informed of all updates to Skip and other products forthcoming. *Please* be honest. Since its initial release 6 weeks ago, over 1000 people have downloaded Skip 0.5 from various soruces. I have received enthusiastic feedback from over 20 people through Email, and yet only five people have sent in their Shareware fees. Their reward is a free copy of Lore's upcoming commercial work. (Thank you Steven B., John H., Peter L., Derrick S., and Tom U.) If *you* use Skip, please send in your shareware fee. Skip was suggested by several frustrated Newton owners on America On-line. If you have a utility that you think would be insanely great, or if you have any suggestions on how to improve Skip, please write to the above address, or drop me a line at: (in order of preference) Internet: kfox@ocf.berkeley.edu NewtonMail: Lore (Lore@online.apple.com) Planet BMUG: Kevin Fox (Kevin_Fox@bmug.org) AppleLink: Lore (Lore@applelink.apple.com) AOL: Lore Ent (Lore_Ent@aol.com) Thank you very much for your support, Kevin Fox President Lore Enterprises RELEASE NOTES: -------------- Skip 1.0L and 1.0R: (November 19, 1993) -New icon displays version number. -On/Off status now displayed on Skip icon. -Skip will now remember whether it was on or off after a power failure or restart and, if applicable, will launch automatically on reset. -Skip can now be used on a card, but must be turned off before card removal.
