SleepSoundPro v.8

SleepSoundPro (SSP) is a Newton application that lets a user change the Sleep and Wake Up sounds their Newton will make.  Normally, the Newton does not make a sound when you turn it off and on.  This is a bit boring, so we wrote SleepSound.  Features got added, improvements were made and far too much time was spent on a Shareware app.  



We've added the ability in SleepSoundPro to support Sound Packages.  We're distributing the format of Sound Packages freely so that others may create packages usable with SleepSoundPro. If you're interested in creating Sound Packages, contact us via e-mail.





How to use it:

You'll need to install SSP on a Newton with a memory expansion card.  We suggest having a card and installing SSP on it.  You can use SSP without a card, but you'll never have enough room for more sounds!  Once you've installed it, NOTHING will appear in your Extras drawer.  This is how SSP is supposed to operate.



SSP installs itself inside of the Formula app.  We chose Formulas as opposed to Prefs for one very good reason, the list in the Prefs app is getting full.  With all the packages competing for a Prefs entry, we decided to go where there was more room.  Yes, we know this is slightly counter-intuitive, but hey, such is life.



When you tap on the SleepSoundPro line in the Formula app overview, you'll open to the SSP screen.  There are three pop-ups here.  They're labelled "Wake" and "Sleep" sound.  Tap on one and choose a sound to match the pop-up function.  This sound will now play and at the time of the chosen function; at sleep or wake up time.  Make your selections and close SSP.



SSP is now installed and ready to use!  Turn you Newton off and on to try it!



If you'd like to use sounds other than the built-in ROM sounds, you have to install a Sound Package.  There are several packages available.  All of these are demo packages.  Simply install a Sound Package as you would any other Newton app.  The Sound Package will add itself to the SSP menus automatically.



When you remove a Sound Package, Reset the Newton or remove a card, SSP will reset itself to using NO sounds.  This is the result of how the Newton deals with card ejects.  We could (and may) improve it, but it would end up leaving a small chunk of data behind in your Newton.  Since memory is tight, we opted not to save this info.  If enough folks _really_ want it, we'll implement it.

However, should some unforseen problem develop, we cannot be held responsibe.  Please back up your Newton before using SSP or any new software.

3/16.3  - Oops.  Selecting <none> causes MP to reset on sleep in 3/14.2.  Fixed in this release.  Amplified several of the sounds for the MP110.

This package is $20 ShareWare.  If you use this a couple of times, like it and

encourage a friend to use it, that's a fair statement to it's value.  Send the

fee.



Please note that this is a demo version of this package and it will expire 30 days after you install it.  This version will totally expire on 12/31/95 and will not let you

install or use it after that date.



Registered users receive an unlimited version.



Please print out the disk file "Register.txt" included with this package.



It contains the necessary information for you to complete.  It will also help us

keep accurate records of all registered users.  You do want your updates, don't

you?
