All Thumbs v.2 & v.5 =================== )1994 William Kearney Tired of hitting that darned overview button (*) when you turn the pages on your digital books? All Thumbs to the rescue! This little hack adds three buttons to the display when a book is opened. A left, right and drag button. Their functions are pretty obvious, tapping on the arrow icons will page the book upward or downward. Since the default location of All Thumbs is over the page number in books and you might want to SEE the page number, the little gray area is a dragging button. Tap, hold and then drag this and you can move All Thumbs anywhere on the screen. All Thumbs will close automatically when you close the book. Version .2 If you select All Thumbs from the Extras drawer, it will open and all apps can use it. To close All Thumbs, just click it's icon again from in the Extras drawer or scrub across it. It does not have a close box on itself, you'd hit it with your thumbs! Scrubbing it is a bit tricky, but it can be done. You can also double-tap on the white area outside of the drag button to close it. Version .5 With this version it's not visible in the Extras drawer. All Thumbs is accessible from the Assist button. Use my Assistance! application and the verb "Thumb" will appear. You can use this to toggle All Thumbs on and off at any time. However, version .5 does use a constant 2k of heap. If you really need larger buttons and you use them a lot, use version .5. Otherwise, you might want to stick with version .2. They're both in this archive. Online reposting note: If you want to publish this file on your system, you must send me an e-mail message requesting permission to do so BEFORE you post it. I will certainly consider all requests. It may NOT be included on any form of distributed-for-a-fee libraries without my express permission. Likewise, send me an e-mail asking for such permission. What it does: ============= All Thumbs patches the built-in bookreader app; copperfield, openbook command. This just tells the copperfield to have All Thumbs open and close books are opened. All Thumbs itself, just sends messages to the actual buttons at the bottom of the screen. Nothing fancy here or imcompatible. Version .2 doesn't support Assist and takes up an icon in the Extras drawer. Version .5 only appears in Assist and takes up a few more bytes of heap. It's up to you which to install. If you're on a 110 or 120, go for version .5. Version History =============== .5 09/30/94 Implemented as an auto part - no Icon in Extras, yeah! Now accessible via the Intelligent Assist .4 & .3 - You don't want to know. .2 06/09/94 Updated icons on buttons Support for scrubbing to close itself Added support for demo try-out period .1 March 94 Initial release to the public Disclaimer ========== This product is currently in beta test.
