What is OneTap New?

--------------------

OneTap New for the Newton is a small button for the backdrop application that allows quick New document creation.

Recognizes and lists added Stationery.

Quick access to preferences.

Adds button to backdrop application.

Requirements

------------

OneTap New is available for Newton OS 2.0 and 2.1. It has been tested on a MessagePad 2000 and MessagePad 130. No testing on a MessagePad 120 or eMate 300 has been done, but no foreseeable problems exist at this time.



Installation

------------

Install OneTapNew.pkg as you would with other Newton software, by downloading it to your device using the Newton Connection Utilities, Newton Backup Utility, Newton Package Installer, or other package installation utility. OneTap New will install a button onto the status bar of the backdrop application.



Note: Some backdrop applications do not allow addition of status bar buttons.



OneTap New will use less heap if installed on the internal store.



Use

---

Once you have installed OneTap New, it will immediately appear on the status bar. In order to deactivate it, either freeze or delete it.



Tap on the button to access a list of New documents. Tap on the name of a document to create a new document. The corresponding application will open.



Hold down on the button to access the preferences. A list of the applications will appear. If a checkmark exists before the name, that application's stationery will appear on the main list. If no checkmark exists, the stationery will not appear on the main list. Tap on a name to toggle the checkmark.



Shareware

---------

OneTap New is shareware. When unregistered, OneTap New will work with no restrictions for 30 days or 250 uses, whichever comes first. After that, OneTap New will wait a 15 seconds delay and a reminder will appear each time it is used unregistered.

Registration

Once your payment is cleared, we will send you a validation code by email (or postal mail). Hold down the button and tap on Register. Make sure the name is correct and enter the validation code (all lowercase letters). Tap Validate.



About Owner Card-based Registration

-----------------------------------

OneTap New uses Owner Card registration. This requires that your registered name appears on the active Owner Card.



If you do temporarily switch to another Owner Card, OneTap New will give you a peaceful grace period to return to the registered Owner Card. If you do not switch to the original Owner Card within the grace period, OneTap New will then give you warnings on each use. However, once you do return to the original Owner Card and use OneTap New, the grace period will be reset.



NewtonID

--------

OneTap New is NewtonID aware, and will use it if it is present on your Newton device. If you later remove the NewtonID user name, OneTap New will use the Owner Card.



NewtonID is an initiative proposed by Foundation Systems that provides a single stable user name to a Newton device. It requires that you install it in order to set your NewtonID user name. Once it is set, however, the software is not required and may be removed.
