CRICKETSCORER (Version 1.88) ============================ CRICKETSCORER: -------------- An 80k package for OMP, MP 110 and MP 120 and for both OS 1.xx and OS 2.0 systems. For keeping score at limited-over cricket matches. For following ball-by-ball cricket commentaries on the radio. For helping understand the complexities of scoring. It automatically generates bowling statistics and a scorecard which can be stored in the unfiled Notepad soup for editing, printing, etc. This package has not been tested on the MP130. INSTRUCTIONS: ------------- (Close any views by clicking the "X" at bottom-right of screen). Setting up match details: ---------------------- % Tap "S" to enter the Set-up view. % Set up the "Overs in the Match". Default is 25. Choose "No Limit" (really 1000 Overs) if it is an all day, unlimited-over affair. Terminate an Innings with the "Declared" option if necessary. % Add players' names by tapping the "Players" button. Entry text lines will pop up. Long names will be shortened automatically to fit the screen display. Tap the "Players" button again to change to the other team. % Choose if the match uses 2 Extras per no-ball. Applicable to some First-Class games. % Choose if the "Away" side is batting first. This feature allows names to be entered before the match begins. During play - Scoring Runs: ------------------------ % Tap on any "number" button to enter any Runs. The runs will appear in a Scoring Preview window which then allows for corrections or additions to be made. % Tap "Score" to commit the runs. (To cancel the Scoring-Preview, use the "X" button). NB: There is no UNDO function in this version ! % Tap the "Dot Ball" button for a quicker entry of zero runs. A dot ball can be reversed by adding an extra ball next time. % Penalty Runs can be added by tapping the "P" Button whilst the Scoring Preview is open. If need be, enter this option more than once to select both "overthrows" and "short runs". "Extra ball" exists for when the bowler runs out the non-striker before delivering the ball, or for when there is a scoring discrepancy with the umpire. % Tap Wides, No Balls and Byes for the Extra Runs. During play - Batsman Out: ------------------------ % Select from "Last Man" for a fall of Wicket. To choose non-striker instead of striker for some wickets: % tap the "Scoring Preview" window. It will toggle between the two choices. For a "Run Out", tap the "Scoring Preview" 4 times to see all the options i.e. whether the batsmen completed the run or not, and whether striker or non-striker is run out. When to Hit the Score Button: -------------------------- When the Scoring Preview window contents are correct, confirm the selection and commit it by tapping the "Score Button". You can change the entry, before committing it, by reselecting from the run numbers. % To quickly identify the batsmen by name, without having to change to the scorecard view, tap on the "Batsmen" numbers. A short-lived popup will appear. % All these are tappable: B1-> 2 1 % Tap on the "B1->" or "<-B2" indicators to change the Bowler. Select from the popup list. To see the Bowlers' names in the pop-up list, enter them first in the Bowling Statistics view. A Bowling change can be done anytime before the last ball of the over, but *don't* change the bowler in the middle of an over if a wicket has already fallen. Statistics: --------- % To see the Scorecard, tap the "C" button. Change team by tapping "C" again. % To see the Bowling Statistics, tap the "B" button. Change team by tapping "B" again. Within the Bowling Statistics view: % tap on a bowler's number in the list to enter the player's name. (After bowlers' names are entered here, they will also appear in the bowler popup list and in the Scorecard). (For non-cricketers: O = overs, M = maidens, W = wickets, R = runs, A = average). % Save the Scorecard and Bowling Statistics by tapping the "folder" icon. This drops the details into the unfiled Notepad soup in the Newton's internal store, where they can be printed, edited, beamed etc. after quitting the application. Close any view by using the "X" button at bottom-right of the screen. WARNING: -------- Because the scores are saved in the application's base-view, they are lost when the Newton is reset, or if a memory card is removed with the application installed on it. (This application doesn't yet support soup storage). NOTES ABOUT SCORING: ---------------- - When a batsman is Caught, runs cannot be counted. - For a Run-out there are 4 choices: striker, non-striker, striker-1, non-striker-1 ( -1 means there is one run incomplete). - If a batsman hits a No Ball and runs are scored off the bat, he is credited. Use the SNoBall button for this i.e struck no-ball. - If the bowler runs-out the non-striker before delivering the ball, an extra ball should be selected from the Penalty list. - Illegal Scoring selections will result in a "Warning" popup. - If the bowler bowls a wide, and the batsmen don't run, choose 0, not 1 (they haven't crossed). Same for a no-ball. - 2 runs must be complete before a run can be considered short. - At the moment, there is no Retired Hurt (not out) option. NOTES ABOUT PRINTING: --------------------- To put the scorecard into the Notepad soup (unfiled notes), tap the folder icon when the scorecard is showing. Do likewise to save the bowling statistics. From the Notepad, these can be edited, filed, printed etc. FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS: --------------------- Counts of byes, wides, no-balls, boundaries, balls-faced etc. may make it into V2.0. Second version for general release. Still some gremlins lurking.... 1.07 Mid 1995. Redesigned numerical input to minimise taps, more features. Limited distribution to testers only. Rather too many bugs. 0.97 Early 1995.
