pURL* Demo version 1.0.1 - November 1996 This is a demo version of pURL, an URL manager for the Newton platform. Why use a Newton device to organize and communicate and not have a cool place to keep your URLs? The more you integrate the net into your life, the more you need an organized way to quickly get to the resources. pURL lets you create this organization using drag and drop capabilities. pURL's features include: % Hierarchical, nested folder metaphor for storing URLs % Tap an URL to launch the associated NIE based application % Import bookmarks from Netscape Navigator, NetHopper and Newt's Cape % Import subscribed news groups from Newt'sPaper % Export URLs to Newt's Cape % URLCop compatible The demo version is functionally equivalent to the non demo version except that it expires in 30 days. Data entered into the demo version is immediately useable with a purchased copy of pURL. Quick Start instructions 1. Install Adobe* Acrobat* Reader on your desktop computer if you don't already have a copy. The Reader is freeware and can be found at http://www.adobe.com if you need to download a copy. 2. Use the Acrobat Reader to read the pURL User Guide contained in the pURL.pdf file. 3. The User Guide explains how to install and use your demo software. Just ignore the section on registering your software since the demo version does not have to be registered with us. 4. We've also provided our API Guide in the pURLapi.pdf file. This guide is intended to aid third-party developers interested in using pURL as their URL repository. Requirements The demo application consumes about 145k of storage. It will run on any Newton* device with version 2.x of the operating system. Note that this version of our software is NOT compatible with earlier versions of the operating system. What's new in version 1.0.1? This version is a maintenance upgrade to v1.0 and includes: % Support for importing URLs from NetHopper v2.2. % A new preferences item to identify which version of NetHopper to import from. This makes it easier to migrate to v2.2 of NetHopper without losing URL information stored within an older version of NetHopper. To accomplish this, use pURL's preferences to first identify the older version of NetHopper to import URLs from. Next, import the URLs into pURL. Now, change pURL's preferences to indicate v2.2 of NetHopper, install v2.2 of NetHopper and you're ready to rock 'n roll. % Support for Flash Sheridan's URLCop. % A Fix for a defect related to dragging and dropping an URL from the clipboard that resulted in the creation of multiple copies of the same URL. % A Fix for a defect that resulted in the URL list displayed during a "Copy from Store" not being displayed in alphabetical order. % Improvements to some aesthetic display qualities associated with running pURL on the MP 2000.
