With this latest version, Personal Media has been redesigned to be smaller, quicker and easier to use. The software now fully uses standard Newton electronic ink, which greatly reduces the storage and memory size of written notes, and adds handwriting and shape recognition to notepads. Also added are full text and title searches throughout workspaces in the Personal Media environment, and ability to edit and work with contacts within Personal Media. Personal Media is the only software that lets you use ink or text notepads on the Motorola Marco and Apple MessagePad for client or project information, visually organize, page, scale, move, or copy them on desktop-like workspaces, and integrates drag-and-drop e-mail and fax. Gaia provides outsourcing of complete, end-to-end handheld information solutions for enterprise applications using Personal Media as the base software environment in sales, service, and executive staff applications. In the Newton software sales channel, Personal Media 1.5 is available as a complete workspace environment on top of the Newton operating system. In customized enterprise applications, Gaia adds custom forms and wireless client support to the environment to meet organizations specific information and communications needs. "We continue to have great response from customers using Personal Media in business applications who say its the space they live in when using the Motorola Marco and Apple MessagePad," said Keven Boyett, Gaias Director of Sales. "With this release weve made it easier to deal with larger amounts of information on these handheld devices through smaller storage and memory size of ink notepads, as well as full text search." "With Personal Media 1.5 on the Marco using integrated two-way wireless communications, or on the MessagePad using modular wireless options, handheld electronic information is convenient and compelling for business use," said Craig Fisk, President and CEO of Gaia Software. "Laptops are great for `production machine' use of traditional PC applications, such as desktop publishing, in hotels when on the road. But as a `transaction machine' for access to the notes, contacts, and messages you want in your hand to get business done - down the hall or across the country - you can't beat handhelds with Personal Media." Personal Media comes on floppy disks for both Windows and Macintosh, or pre-installed on a 1 MB SRAM card. The card version is self-installing. The disk version includes installers for installation from Windows or the Macintosh. The Newton Connection Kit is not needed, but installation from floppy disks does require a serial cable. All registered Personal Media customers will receive a free update to Version 1.5.
