Cryptograms Cryptograms is a word puzzle game for the Newton from Alpine Software. Each puzzle contains a quote and its author. Decipher the puzzle by replacing each letter with another. Installation/Removal: Cryptograms consists of one file, crypto.pkg. The program creates a small soup to record which puzzles have been solved. When you remove the package, the soup will remain, so you'll need to use a soup management utility to delete it. Playing the Game: When the game begins, the display shows the game's instructions. To remove the panel and start the game, tap the X in the lower right hand corner. You can bring the instructions up at any time by tapping the ? button. The display contains three areas. The top is the puzzle: empty slots with a letter below each one. The middle is an A-Z picker. The bottom has some buttons on it. The object of the game is to decipher the quote. Tap a slot and then tap a letter on the A-Z picker. The program will put your letter in every slot that matches the letter of the slot. If that letter has already been used, it is deleted from the original slot(s) and then placed in the new slots. The A-Z picker "floats" so you can move it around the screen. The buttons: Next - takes you to the next unsolved puzzle. If all puzzles have been solved, it takes you to the next puzzle. Clr - clears the current puzzle. Del - deletes the current slot's letter and any letter it matches. Hint - shows you the answer for the current slot. Ans - shows the answer for the entire puzzle. ? - displays a help message. Overview button - brings up a list of puzzle titles. Solved puzzles will have a checkmark next to them. Tapping the arrows moves you through the list. Overview arrows - if the overview list is not being displayed, picking the arrows will takes you to the next (or previous) puzzle. Limitations: Undo is not implemented. There is no or on the overview list. Just keep tapping the arrows to make sure you've seen all the puzzles. The quotes are not encrypted in the package. If you want to see them, you can use your favorite memory view to do so. But what would be the point? Copyright and Registration Information Cryptograms is shareware copyright 1995 Alison Schondorf.
