WineList 1.0 WineList is a Shareware ($10.00US) Newton application for the Wine connoisseur. It enables you to keep track of a multitude of wines on the basis of winery, vintage, type, price, rank and tasting notes. The database WineList uses is import/export compatible with Newton Connection Kit 2.0 which means you can up/down load wine data to/from your favorite desktop database application as long as it supports tab delimited text data interchange. I have included an extensive wine database provided to me by a friend who happens to be a fellow Wine lover and connoisseur. In fact, his FileMaker Pro Wine database was the inspiration behind WineList. You can load this data set using the supplied WineListDB program, or import your own desktop wine data set using Newton Connection Kit 2.0, or enter your entries directly on the Newton. The basic operation of the WineList program is as follows: After starting the program a list of wines sorted by Winery-Type-Vintage will be displayed. At this point, you can scroll the list or tap a letter from the A-Z index to move the list to a wine you wish to look at. You can also tap the "Type" label to have the list re-sorted by Type-Winery-Vintage. Tapping the New button brings up an empty edit view which allows you to enter a new WineList entry. To view the information for a particular wine, simply tap on the wine entry in the list. Once you've selected a wine to view, the screen changes to display the information pertaining to that entry. The information is as follows: Winery: the winery this wine was produced by Type: the vintage, wine, and vineyard information for this selection Tasting Notes: any tasting notes you may have entered Price: the price of the wine Locale: where the wine comes from (ie, City, State or Region, Country) Store: this field can be used to keep track of where you have stored the wine if you have a wine collection, or perhaps to indicate where you bought the wine Rank: this is a 0-10 scale of your personal ranking of the wine While you are viewing an individual WineList entry you can: Edit the entry by tapping the Edit button, or you can Print, Fax, Beam, Mail, Duplicate or Delete the entry just like in many other Newton programs. WineList supports three different print formats for Printing and Faxing: Single Entry, Summary (sorted) by Wine, and Summary (sorted) by Winery. To redisplay the overview (List of Wines) all you need to do is tap the universal overview button (this is the black dot between the up and down arrow buttons silkscreened onto every Newton device). You may also scroll the entries while you are viewing an individual WineList entry. If you use WineList, please consider sending me the ten bucks shareware fee.
