Now ChessPro the first chess playing title for the Newton is available and
at your command to challenge and entertain you. The Newton ChessPro is a
full fledged chess playing program complete with an opening moves library
and unlimited levels of play. You can play against the computerized
ChessPro opponent or it can be used by two players as an electronic
chessboard. ChessPro can even play against itself. If you would like you
can play just a few moves and then close the program, then the next time
you launch ChessPro it will remember where you left off and you may
continue the game. It is perfect for the mobile Newton user.

Initially the program will be locked and function in the demo mode. To unlock
just follow the simple unlocking and purchasing instructions in the help
book under the info button. Unlocking will transform the demo into a fully
functional chess playing program. Unlocking cost $39 by email or
$39+$5 by traditional mail.

In demo mode the program will play only the first ten moves for each
game (20 half-moves), but otherwise it is fully functional.

Please have a seat, pick your side and then challenge ChessPro on the

button. For optimal viewing comfort you may want to increase the
contrast somewhat before launching ChessPro on the Newton.

If you like the program then please feel free to give all your friends a
copy and if you notice the program is missing from your favorite ftp site,
on-line service, or bulletin board please post a copy ! The copy will be a
demo version. The demo version can quickly be turned into a real version,
by following the purchasing instructions.

BACKGROUND

Writing chess playing programs has been a personal hobby and interest of
the author Sampo Kaasila for over ten years. The Newton version marks the
first commercial external release. The Newton is a good platform due
to its small size and mobility. The author's extensive chess programming
knowledge enabled the creation of an interesting chess opponent on the
Newton, despite the sluggish performance of NewtonScript on the Newton.
Please write to the author at Type Solutions, Inc., if you have suggestions
for future enhancements for the Newton version or if you would like to see
ChessPro on other platforms. On a PowerPC or Pentium machine ChessPro
would be devastatingly powerful.
