SetAgendaView.pkg Makes certain that your Dates application starts off in the Agenda view. „„„„„„„„„„„„„„„„What it's all about I like my MessagePad to show me the day's agenda. But after a reset, it always starts in the Day view, requiring a couple of taps to set aright. I wrote Set24 to make the Newton default to 24-hour style after a reset; why not change this too? Fortunately it's easier and takes less code! „„„„„„„„„„„„„„„„Installing You can install it using the Newton Backup Utility or another package utility. It will work immediately, changing your current Dates screen to the Agenda view when you open it. If your backdrop application is Dates, you won't notice any change right away, but if you reset, you'll get the Agenda view as soon as it opens. (To set Dates as your backdrop, go to the ñExtrasî drawer and select ñMemory Infoî under the i button.) Since SetAgendaView is an AutoPart, it will show up in your Extensions folder. The application may be placed on a card without problems. It works with OS 2.0 and has been tested on a MessagePad 120. It will not work on any unit running NOS 1.3 or earlier. I have not had the opportunity to test it on a MessagePad 2000, eMate, or any other NOS 2.1 device; therefore it may or may not work on those units. The only thing that SetAgendaView does is to change the default Dates screen, and it only does that on a reset. You can change the view to Day, Month, Year, or anything else in the ñShowî popup in that application, same as always, and it'll remember that until the next reset. SetAgendaView may be placed on a card with no problems. Of course, then you change the Dates screen any time you insert that card, and not at startup after a reset. What the hey, keep it internal; it's real small. „„„„„„„„„„„„„„„„Warning: This is a hack The program depends on undocumented variables which may not show up in future Newton OS releases. I don't think that it's harmful, but you use it at your own risk. Documented source code is included in this archive. Beginning programmers might find it useful. The project file is ñSetAgendaViewî and it uses ñProject Dataî; if you're not a programmer you can ignore or discard those files. „„„„„„„„„„„„„„„„Shareware fee Nothing! It's free! Don't you like hearing that? „„„„„„„„„„„„„„„„Distribution SetAgendaView may be distributed freely, as long as [1] this ReadMe file is included and [2] no fee is charged for its distribution. Online services which charge a reasonable hourly rate but do not charge for downloads may place it in their libraries. Distributors of CD-ROMs and other software libraries may include it if prior permission is given; write to the author for details. The author has also released, or will release, a number of other small but useful pieces of shareware and freeware. They're uploaded regularly to the usual sites.
