First of all we want to thank you for trying out FreeStyle(tm) a personal
recognition engine based on the revolutionary OrthoGraph(tm) recognition
technology.  We at ParaGraph have been supporting the Newton platform
since day one (our CalliGrapher (tm)  recognition technology and
HodoGraph (tm) ink compression technology is in the Newton OS) and
hope FreeStyle will add to the functionality of your Newton.  We believe it
a perfect complementary recognizer to the OS recognition for both
Newton 1.X and 2.0.  It will allow you to have a personal recognizer that
doesnƒt require memorization of esoteric symbols.   You will be able
to take notes without looking at the screen using your natural
letter shapes.

FreeStyle works in the Newton 1.x or 2.0 Operating Systems. After
installing FreeStyle's packages tap on the Trainer icon in the Extras
Drawer to start the training process. Please refer to the on-line help if
you have any questions.


DISABLED FEATURES
-----------------

We would like you to be able to use this demo to  *fully* evaluate
FreeStyle. Therefore this version is equal to the full version in every
way except:

1. You will only be able to use the recognition engine in its
own demo application. In the real version you will be able to use the
Writing Window with all Newton programs.

We are confident that enough functionality has been maintained to enable
you to fully evaluate FreeStyle.  Also when you do decide to purchase the
full version, you WILL NOT have to retrain your letters.


HOW IS FREESTYLE DIFFERENT?
--------------------------

Electronic ink and handwriting recognition have given rise to a new way
of writing. Letters can now be written in the same place, one upon the
other, without hand movement. No concern about relative location is
necessary.  It is a location independent recognizer if it converts such
writing into normal printed text.

FreeStyle is first to do location-independent recognition without
compromise.

No time-out restrictions.  Time out before each character was a
very annoying limitation since it could drastically reduce text
entry and forced a break in your natural writing rhythm.

With FreeStyle there is no need to pause between characters.

No pre-defined shapes.  A set of prescribed single-stroke shapes
instead of usual handwriting characters was a step that
popularized a new way of writing. But users were
forced to convert from their natural style-- not always an easy task.

With FreeStyle there is no need to memorize strange pre-designed
symbols.
