Installing Area Code Change ========================================================================= If Area Code Change is not already installed on your Newton device, you need to install it into your NewtonÍs memory or onto a PC card. To do this, you use a Newton utility that can install software packages, such as the Newton Connection Utilities or Newton Backup Utility, with a computer running the Mac OS or Windows operating system. Once installed, Area Code Change is automatically stored in the Unfiled folder in the Extras Drawer. Opening Area Code Change ========================================================================= 1. Tap Extras. Note: If you donÍt see the Extras Drawer icon, it means Extras is the backdrop, the default background application. Go to the Extras Drawer by tapping every closebox you see. For information about the backdrop application, refer to the documentation that came with your Newton device. 2. If you donÍt see the Area Code Change icon, tap the folder tab and tap Unfiled Icons. 3. Tap the Area Code Change icon. Note: If the Area Code Change icon doesnÍt appear, tap Extras, tap the folder tab, and in the list that appears, tap All Icons. Then tap the Area Code Change icon 4. When you are finished using Area Code Change, tap the closebox to quit. Using Area Code Change ========================================================================= NOTE: It is a good idea to back up your Newton before running Area Code Change in the event that you enter any incorrect information. Area Code Change is easy to use. 1. Open Area Code Change. 2. Enter the old area code. 3. Enter the new area code. 4. Tap Update Area Codes. Area Code Change will change any phone number whose area code matches (1) with (2). This process may take a few minutes to execute, depending on the number of entries you have in Names. Area Code Change lets you refine your search in three ways: 1. CITY: You can enter in a city name and Area Code Change will only modify those entries in the given city. EXAMPLE: If you configured Area Code Change to search for the following: Old Area Code: 123 New Area Code: 456 City: Metropolis Tapping Update Area Codes on the following data: John Doe / Metropolis, NY 99999 / (123) 456-7890 Jane Doe / Cityville, NY 11111 / (123) 456-7890 Here, only John Doe's phone number will be changed to: (456)456-7890 because you have limited your search to those entries whose city is Metropolis. 2. PREFIX You can enter a list of comma-delimited telephone prefixes. Area Code Change will only modify those entries with the given prefixes. EXAMPLE: If you configured Area Code Change to search for the following: Old Area Code: 123 New Area Code: 456 Prefix: 453, 746 Tapping Update Area Codes on the following data: John Doe / (123) 555-7890 Jeff Doe / (123) 983-7890 Jane Doe / (123) 456-7890 Jorge Doe / (123) 746-7890 This time, Jane and Jorge's phone numbers will be changed by Area Code Change because their prefixes matched those specified in the prefix field. 3. CITY & PREFIX: You may combine the city and prefix searches. When Area Code Change has completed, it will notify you how many entries were updated.
