Installing the software:



To install software, use the Newton Connection Utilities which comes with your Newton MessagePad.  If you have questions about installing or configuring software using NCU, please contact Apple Computer Company.



1.  First install the required files:



retrieve.pkg

newtonid.pkg



2.  Install the optional files you would like to have on your Newton:



Jfp1996.pkg (JFP POEMs, formerly called Journal Club, for 1994-6)

JFP1997.pkg (JFP POEMs for 1997)

Cochabst.pkg (Cochrane Database abstracts)

TxStore.pkg (selected treatment guidelines)

Tests.pkg (diagnostic test information)

hp.pkg (history and physical exam information)

rules.pkg (access to clinical prediction rules)

figures.pkg (tables and figures)



3.  Install the optional electronic books you would like to have on your Newton:



Ebm.pkg

Pearls.pkg

RetrHelp.pkg



4.  Once you disconnect from the Newton Connection Utilities, the NewtonID program will run automatically on your Newton.  Enter your name when prompted.



5.  Open the Extras drawer and run InfoRetriever.  Only cardiovascular disease items will be activated.  There are 16 other organ systems which you will gain access to when you register the software ($99). 



6.  To register, just select "Register" from the "i" button in the bottom left corner, and follow the instructions.
