Newton DD Dice (c) 1997 by SDH EngSoft written by: Shane D. Hill Introduction: -------------- DD Dice is a Newton 2.x package that visually allows the rolling of six different dice. The package is aimed at people who play roll playing games. DD Dice is FREEWARE and can be distributed freely but must not be modified unless approval has been granted by the author. Installation: -------------- You need to install the DD_Dice.pkg file onto the Newton using the Newton Backup Utility or the like. History: --------- DD Dice was originally written using Apples Windows NTK 1.6 beta. I even had a sound package extension that would play Star Wars sound dialogue for different die roll results. I never bought the public release of NTK for Windows, so this version can't be distributed. Not that you would be keen to download a 512Kb sound extension when the base package is only 12Kb. This version of DD Dice was written primarily using Steve Weyer's Newton Development Environment for the Newton. Parts of the view frames were designed using Serg Koren's VisualNewt for the Newton DD Dice View Description: --------------------------- DD Dice presents six configurable dice. For each die view, the following can be done: a> To roll a die, just tap on the centre of the die button. The result will appear above the die button in a large font. b> To change to base value of a die, tap the diamond in the top right corner of the die button. A popup will appear from which can be selected dice of value 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, 50, 100 or Custom. Note that for the custom die to work, a die value must be entered into the die modifier input line. c> Die rolls may be added by tapping the + button in the top right of the die button. The number of dice rolled will appear in the lower left corner of the die button. d> A roll modifier may be added to the final roll by entering a value into the modifier input line directly below a die button. Double tapping on the die modifier will make a numerical keypad appear. The aim of the modifier is to be able to roll a value such as 1d6+5. A roll playing game player will know what this is. e> To quickly roll n-times a die, enter the multiplier value into the input line on the far right of the view. The tap the die button to be rolled. The die will be rolled n times and the modifier added for each roll if required. Therefore it is possible to roll say 12x(1d6+5). f> To clear an individual die modifier, tap the C button in the lower right corner of the die button. g> To clear all the dice, tap the C button in the top right corner of the application view. h> To roll the stats for a roll playing game character, tap the N button in the middle right of application view. The resultant six values are calculated from the best three out of four 3d6 dice rolls. i> The application can be minimised by tapping the circular button in the top left of the application view. The view can be restored by tapping circular button in the center of the minimised view. j> To find out who I am, tap the I (info) button to the right of the application view. Miscellaneous: -------------- DD Dice support view rotation. DD Dice will also remember where you last left it on the screen the next time it starts. The is if you have ever tried to drag it to a new location. Comments and Bug Reports: -------------------------- Please send any bug reports, suggestions or comments to: Shane D.
