Obtaining a Cable to Connect Your Mobile Device to Your Macintosh For Newton Users: In order to use Pocket Quicken Connect to transfer data from Pocket Quicken for Newton to Quicken for Macintosh, you need a serial cable that connects from your Newton device to a serial port on your Macintosh. This serial cable comes with the Newton Connection Kit for Macintosh. If you already have the Newton Connection Kit for Macintosh, you can use that cable with Pocket Quicken Connect. If you do not have this cable, ask your Newton or Macintosh reseller for a Mini Din 8 to Mini Din 8 Male/Male serial cable. This cable may also be referred to as a Macintosh to Apple Modem or ImageWriter II cable. For Magic Cap Users: In order to use Pocket Quicken Connect to transfer data from Pocket Quicken for Magic Cap to Quicken for Macintosh, you need a serial cable that connects from your Magic Cap device to a serial port on your Macintosh. This connection kit comes with Magic Xchange for Macintosh. If you already have Magic Xchange for Macintosh, you can use that cable with Pocket Quicken Connect. If you do not have this cable, you may purchase it directly from Intuit. Please call 1-800-243-4650, and ask for the serial cable for Pocket Quicken Connect for Macintosh and Magic Cap devices. Get Pocket Quicken Connect Menu Item The standard installation of Pocket Quicken Connect will place the command ñGet Pocket Quicken Dataî in your Activities menu in Quicken for Macintosh. You may choose to also have this command appear on your Quicken iconbar. Please see your Quicken for Macintosh documentation for more information on adding menu items to your iconbar. Pocket Quicken Connect Step-by-Step The first time you run Pocket Quicken Connect, youÍll see the Pocket Quicken Connect Step-by-Step panels. Intuit recommends that you follow the instructions in the Step-by-Step panels for your first transfer in order to familiarize yourself with the process of transferring data from your mobile device to Quicken for Macintosh. If you would like to bypass the Step-by-Step screens on subsequent launches of Pocket Quicken Connect, make sure that the Show Step-by-Step at Startup checkbox is unchecked. You can see this checkbox in any of the following places: ´ In the final Step-by-Step panel after transferring transactions ´ In the confirmation dialog when you close Step-by-Step without finishing all of the panels. ´ In the Preferences dialog, available through the Edit menu. Balance Adjustment Transfer From Quicken for Macintosh The ñBalance Adjustmentî transaction (ñDesktop Balanceî on Magic Cap devices) is always the last item to show in a Pocket Quicken register for any given day. In other words, if you transfer your Pocket Quicken transactions to Quicken for Macintosh before you enter any other transactions on a given day, those transactions will appear above the Balance Adjustment in Pocket Quicken. Note: A balance adjustment transaction is added to an account by Pocket Quicken Connect only if the Quicken account balance differs from the associated Pocket Quicken account after the transfer of your Pocket Quicken transactions. Pocket Quicken for Macintosh does not take post-dated transactions into account when computing a desktop balance adjustment. If you have post-dated transactions at the time you transfer transactions to Pocket Quicken Connect, please verify the desktop balance adjustment after you have completed your transfer. Compatibility With Other Software Products Macintosh LocalTalk Networking Software If your Macintosh is part of a LocalTalk network, you will not be able to use Pocket Quicken Connect with the printer port if LocalTalk is enabled. Use either the modem port or disable AppleTalk in the Chooser if you have this problem. MacOS 7.5.2 users may also change the port that LocalTalk uses in the AppleTalk control panel. Jump DevelopmentÍs OptiMem RAM Charger Intuit recommends that you run Pocket Quicken Connect with ñOptiMizationî turned off. Like many communications programs, Pocket Quicken Connect was designed to have fairly fixed memory requirements and probably will not be significantly helped by OptiMization. See your OptiMem RAM Charger documentation for additional information. For Newton Users: Newton applications that intercept pen input, such as Graffiti and Elegance, must be temporarily disabled before you press the ñConnectî button from the ñUpload Transactionsî window in Pocket Quicken. After you are done uploading Pocket Quicken transactions to Quicken for Windows, you can re-enable these applications. Pocket Quicken Connect Usage Notes When you transfer transactions to Quicken for Macintosh, Pocket Quicken Connect creates a file with the name of your Quicken data file suffixed by .PQC in the same folder as your Quicken data file. If you move or rename your Quicken data file, you must make the corresponding changes in the .PQC file in order to retain your account links, memorized category assignments, and previously uploaded transactions. If you upgrade to a later version of Quicken for Macintosh, be sure to copy this file to the new location of your Quicken data file. Intuit recommends that you back up this file along with your Quicken for Macintosh data file. Intuit recommends that you not make modifications to your Quicken data in Quicken for Macintosh while a Pocket Quicken Connect transfer is in progress. Due to internal limitations, Pocket Quicken Connect will not transfer an individual transaction containing a value of $20,000,000 or more. For Newton Users: If you are transferring a large number of transactions, Pocket Quicken Connect may take a while to complete its task. Intuit recommends that you transfer transactions at regular intervals to avoid this. Pocket Quicken for Newton and Pocket Quicken Connect are U.S. localized products that deal with U.S. currency only. Changing your locale in the Newton Preferences or in your Macintosh control panels to any other locale other than the U.S. may cause incorrect information to be transferred.
