you'll love this exciting new Newton software product, 


and we feel confident that it will make your life a 


lot easier if you must create expense reports on even 


an occassional basis.





If you don't already have the ExpensePlus 2.0 Handbook, 


you can download it in Adobe Acrobat format from our 


home page at http://members.aol.com/walletware.  If 


you don't have the Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can 


download it from America Online (keyword: Adobe) or 


from Adobe's home page: http://www.adobe.com.  Or if you


prefer, we can send you a paperback version of the


handbook for a minimal shipping/handling charge.





The ExpensePlus 2.0 Handbook can be printed directly 


from Adobe Acrobat Reader, but we think you'll prefer 


to use it in its interactive electronic format.  The 


table of contents are embedded as Acrobat Bookmarks, 


enabling you to view the entire structure of the handbook 


in collapsable outline formats.  Clicking on any part 


of the outline takes you directly to that part of the 


handbook.  In addition, there are hypertext (all 


underlined words) and hyperlinks (most buttons, icons, 


and graphics) that instantly transport you to related 


sections of the handbook.  Using the "Find" feature 


makes it easier to find a particular word or phrase 


than using the most comprehensive index in the back of 


any other paper manual.  We hope you like using the new 


electronic handbook.





If you are upgrading from an earlier version of 


ExpensePlus 2.0, the electronic handbook has not 


changed in version 2.0.5.  If, however, you are 


upgrading from ExpensePlus 1.0, you should download 


the new manual, or call us at (714) 262-9380 for a 


hard copy of the manual.





There is also a Newton ExpensePlus Help package that 


you can optionally install on your PDA, giving you 


over 100 Newton-sized pages of help for ExpensePlus 


2.0 right on your Newton and accessible from virtually 


any window within ExpensePlus.   Though this help file 


takes up about 100K of your storage card or internal 


memory, we think you'll find it quite valuable if you 


have the extra room.  If not, ExpensePlus 2.0 will run 


fine without it.





And last, but not least, is the optional ExpensePlus 


Notes Stationery.  Though you don't need this package 


to use ExpensePlus, if you have a Newton 2.0 or 2.1 PDA, 


you'll probably find it indespensible.  With it 


installed on your Newton PDA, you'll be able to create 


expense slips right from the notepad.  There will be 


a new item in your "New" button, along with Note, 


Checklist, and Outline, called Expense.  Tap this item, 


and a new expense slip will be created within your notes 


package.  Create as many expense slips as you need, and 


then the next time you launch ExpensePlus, it will 


automatically move all of the expense slip notes from 


your notepad into your expense report.  To use this new 


package, you'll need to have a Newton 2.0 or 2.1 PDA.





The main ExpensePlus 2.0 package, however, will run on 


any Newton operating system -- from version 1.0 to 


version 2.1.  But if you haven't upgraded to a Newton 2.0 


or 2.1 PDA yet, we highly recommend that you consider 


doing so to take advantage of the better handwriting 


recognition, the faster speed, and the dozens of features 


2.0 or 2.1 has to offer.  Plus, you can now capture all of 


your expenses while traveling by using your notepad without 


having to launch ExpensePlus on a Newton 2.0 MessagePad!





If you own a Newton 1.0 device, install the EXP2NOS1.pkg 


onto your Newton PDA.





If you own a Newton 2.0 or 2.1 device (a MessagePad 120,


MessagePad 130, a MessagePad 2000, or an eMate) then 


install the EXP2NOS2.pkg onto your Newton PDA, as well 


as the EXPNOTES.PKG.





If you are upgrading from ExpensePlus 2.0.x, then you must 


delete the current version of ExpensePlus before installing 


this latest version.  Your expense report files will not be 


affected if you delete the ExpensePlus package.  If you are 


upgrading from ExpensePlus 1.0.x, then you do not need to 


remove the ExpensePlus 1.0 package before installing version 


2.0.





Finally, there is a known problem with Apple's NBU and NPI


applications on Windows computers when installing large (over


100K Newton packages).  If you wish to install a large Newton


package directly onto a Flash Memory card, the Newton Backup


Utility or the Newton Package Installer is very likely to fail.


You should, instead, copy the package (such as the main


ExpensePlus package) to your MessagePad's internal memory


first, then copy that package to your Flash memory card.  This


problem does not occur with small packages, or installing


onto static RAM cards, or when using a Macintosh.
