Card Creator v1.0 --------------------------------------------------------------------- copyright 1997 Stand Alone, Inc. NOTE: This software is for Newton 2.0 + Newtons ONLY. * What's it do? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Card Creator lets you design and build your own business card types for the built-in Names File of the Newton. Card creator actually 'builds' new packages onto your Newton. These packages can be beamed, and Card Creator does not need to be installed for these cards to work. * What's in this archive? --------------------------------------------------------------------- There are three Newton software packages and three text files in this archive. They are: * Card Creator.txt document you're now reading. * Card Creator.pkg software package you'll install on your Newton. * SA Reg.pkg software package you'll install on your Newton to enter the password you get when you register Card Creator. * SAStuff.txt A list of all Stand Alone products. * Installing Card Creator --------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, you must get the Card Creator software package onto your Newton. You can do this using the Newton Connection Utility (for Mac or Windows), the Newton Package Downloader, or the Newton Backup Utility. See the documentaion with each of these for more information on installing packages with them. * Using Card Creator --------------------------------------------------------------------- Card Creator creates business cards for your names file on the Newton MessagePad running OS 2.0 or greater. When starting a new card it is automatically named 'untitled card'. To change this scribble out the old name and enter the new one. If you wish to work on a card already in progress or modify an existing card you may tap on the "Name" Label. to get a list of all saved cards. Select the name of the card you wish to work on from the list. Cards are automatically saved, so you do not need to save them. To lay items on the card you first must tap on the field picker. You will be given a list field types, shapes, and the selection tool. Choose an item you wish to be displayed (excluding 'Selection', to be described later) on your card. Drag out the item in card creator (or if the selected field is a graphic you will 'draw' out the item). When you lift the pen a box will be displayed showing you the item with a gray box around it. To resize the item tap in the lower right hand corner, and drag the corner around. To move the item tap and drag the item where you want it to be. To edit attributes pf an item tap on the item. This will bring you to a new window. The 'Field' pick will allow you to edit the field type of the item. Font will change the font of ant text in the item. Separator is the character used to separate some of the field's contents. Justify controls the justifification of items in a field, and the list of check boxes show which items will be displayed. NOTE: not all of these items will be displayed for each object. In addition, if you are editing a graphic you will be able to change its line thickness, pen pattern, and fill pattern. You can also delete the item by tapping on the 'Delete' button. The i button is used to get to the about screen, preference screen, and register screen. The About screen tells you what version you have and how many days left on your registration and how to contact us. Preferences let you set the default attributes for fields and Picker selection (how the picker will react after you drag out a field or graphic). The register screen is used once you get a registration password from us (remember once Card Creator expires, all of the cards you built with it). The Preview button displays the card the way it will be displayed once it is built in the names application. You can not edit the card when in preview mode. The New button creates a new untitled card. The current card you are working on is saved and can be accessed via the Name label. The Action button gives the options to Print/Fax/Beam the current sample. This uses the built in names features. To Build the card choose 'Build'. Card Creator actually builds packages and installs these on your Newton. These packages can be treated like any other package on your Newton. Card Creator can be frozen or deleted and these packages will remain intact. A window will appear where you can name the card. Give it a unique name so that the Newton recognizes it as a unique package. If you give your package the same name as another package on the Newton, the Newton will overwrite the other package. "Install on" gives you the option to install the new card on your choice of stores. Card type is used to select the type of card this can be used as. The unique number is used to keep track of your business cards. If two cards contain the same number, they will conflict and only one will work. The icon of the card is displayed in the lower left hand corner. If icon editor (distributed by Stand Alone) is installed on your Newton you can tap on the icon to edit it. To build the card, tap build. This will take up to 5 minutes, depending on what type of Newton you own. Delete will delete the card from Card Creator. This does not delete the card if it is already built, you must do this in the extensions folder of your extras drawer. Set Cards lets you set all of the business cards in the selected folder to a certain card type. Sample lets you choose a sample name from your names file to be displayed while building new cards. * Registering Card Creator --------------------------------------------------------------------- You have a 30 day trial period in which to examine Card Creator, during which it will function fully.
