Oct. 22, 1997 Install instructions for GoFetch 1.2.7. There are three different versions of GoFetch. Most people will only want the GoFetchNIE (GOFNIE) version. It contains all the pieces of GoFetch needed to work with Apple's NIE internet enabler software. The GoFetchShell version contains the Unix dialup shell version of GoFetch. If do not have a PPP and/or SLIP account but can access the internet through a direct dialup shell then you want this version. The final version contains both the NIE and Shell versions for those people who can use both NIE and direct dialup shell connections. * GoFetchNIE.sit (GOFNIE.ZIP) for tcp/ip NIE connections only * GoFetchShell.sit (GOFSHELL.ZIP) for direct Unix dialup shell accounts only * GoFetch.sit (GOF.ZIP) for both NIE and Unix shell access. Make sure that you install the packages on the store where you want to keep the packages. We recommend installing internally but it isn't absolutely necessary. If you install on a card, remember that you might lose the ability to read, send or receive email when the card is removed. To install internally, tap on the Card icon in the extras drawer, make sure that the "Save new info and packages on this card" checkbox isn't selected for any card installed in a PC-Card slot. If you haven't ever installed any version of GoFetch in the past then you just need to select the version of GoFetch that you want and download all the pieces using the Newton Connection Utilities (NCU) or some other Newton compatible install program. If you have installed a previous version of GoFetch 1.2.5r2 or earlier you will want to delete the old packages by hand before installing the new ones. Some of the internal names have changed slightly and if you just install over the old packages you will use up extra storage unnecessarily. Deleting the packages will not cause any data to be lost, the setup data, preferences, and your email is stored separately and won't be deleted by following these instructions. Delete the following GoFetch packages (some packages might not be on all installations, if it isn't installed make sure you check any storage cards you might regularly use): In the Unfiled Folder: GoFetch Mail GoFetch Order In the Extensions Folder: GoFetch NIE GoFetch Shell Setup Guide In the Help Folder: Go Fetch Setup Help In the Setup Folder: GoFetch Setup Now install all the pieces from one of the three versions available using the Newton Connection Utilities (NCU) or some other Newton compatible install program. We recommend that you install the whole thing but some users, who are shore on storage, might want to delete the optional packages. Here is a list of the optional packages and their folder locations in the extras drawer: In the Unfiled Folder: - GoFetchExtras.pkg This package adds the GoFetch button the Status bar of the backdrop application. It also shows a pop up of available shortcut functions that you can run without opening the inbox/outbox first. Finally, it contains the Notepad GoFetch Mail stationery found under the "New" button on the notepad. These are all optional functions, provided as a convenience and are never necessary to use the full functionality the Newtons built-in email functions. In the Setup Folder: - GoFetch Setup.pkg This package allows you to add/remove/modify your settings for different email accounts. It is necessary that this package remain installed while you are setting up your email accounts but after your email setup is completed this package can be removed. If you change email account information frequently or don't like the fact that you can't view your email accounts from the "Owner Info" application then we recommend you leave this package installed. Any information entered into the Owner Info application while GoFetch Setup is installed will remain but it won't be visible. In the Help Folder: - GoFetchHelp.pkg This is a help book for using GoFetch. If you don't need help it can be deleted without any other consequences.
