You can install MobileMath in either Newton's internal memory or on a PCMCIA card. To install MobileMath, you will need a Macintosh or Windows compatible computer and the Newton Connection kit for your computer. When installed on the Newton, MobileMath requires approximately 85K of free space. If you want to install MobileMath on a PCMCIA card, tap Card in the Extras drawer and be sure that Store New Items on Card is checked. Otherwise, the connection kit will install MobileMath in the Newton's internal memory. Prior to installing MobileMath, you need to connect Newton to your personal computer. There are several ways to connect a Newton to a personal computer. Please refer to your Newton Connection Kit documentation for information on the best way to connect Newton to your personal computer. To install MobileMath: 1. Insert the appropriate diskette into your personal computer. 2. Start the Newton Connection Kit. The Connection window appears. 3. Click Install Package. An open file dialog box appears. 4. If you are using a Macintosh, open the MobileMath file. If you are using a Windows computer, open the MblMath.pkg file. You now need to tell your Newton to receive the file. 5. Tap the Extras button. The Extras drawer appears. 6. Tap the Connection button. The Type of Connection dialog box appears. 7. Tap the type of connection you have established. The type depends on the type of personal computer you are using and whether you are using AppleTalk. 8. When you are ready to receive the file, tap Connect. The Newton Connection Kit copies MobileMath onto your card. When you install MobileMath for the first time, you will be prompted to enter the registration number. The number is located in multiple places: your registration card, the Quick Reference Card, and the inside front cover of your User's Guide. Double-tap on the input line to enter the registration number with Newton's built-in keyboard. After you send in your registration card, save the stub from the registration card in a safe place. It contains the MobileSoft technical support number and your registration number. If you ever need to reinstall MobileMath, you will need to re-enter your registration number. When MobileMath is installed, the MobileMath icon should appear in the Extras drawer automatically. If it looks like a triangle, you need to activate it. To activate MobileMath: 1. Tap the MobileMath icon. The MobileMath activation screen appears. 2. Tap the Activate MobileMath checkbox. A checkmark appears in the Activate checkbox and MobileMath is ready for use. 3. Tap the close box to put away the activation screen. Deactivating MobileMath: You may find that you need to temporarily deactivate MobileMath so that you can use your Newton for other tasks. For example: - When performing a backup to a PCMCIA card, you may need to deactivate MobileMath because of memory restrictions of the Newton. - If you buy other products that extend the Intelligent Assistant's vocabulary, you may find that these products may use the same request words that MobileMath does. If you experience a conflict, you may need to deactivate either product to avoid confusion. To deactivate MobileMath: - Tap the MobileMath icon in the Extras drawer and deselect the Activate checkbox. Copyright 1993 MobileSoft Corporation.
