Mathematic Expressions
Create Formulas on your Newton! |
Finally, a Newton Equation Entry system is available!
Formula is a set of packages which allows you to create basic equations using text or a drag-n-drop palette of symbols. The results are graphically formatted equations, that can be used in Notes, Works, or any document that allows graphic input.
Graphic Symbols! |
Supported Symbols
Text Input or Drag-n-Drop |
Formula works by taking text and parsing it to create the formulated expression. For example, the sentence "integrate(a,b) x^2 dx" is converted by Formula into the graphical expression. Although Formula still does not provide hand-written recognition of symbols, this text-entry method is quite flexible and powerful. It supports integrals, summations, superscripts (for exponents), subscripts, and various other symbols.
In addition, Formula also offers a palette. The palette display an example of all symbols which you can drag-n-drop onto the Formula view. It is useful for rapid prototyping of equations, because it can generate the basic pattern for the equation. Changing the equation to match yours is simpler, because now all you have to do is change the parameters for each component of the equation.
Works & Notes Packages |
Formula comes with two packages - one is for Newton Works and the other for Notes
Both feature:
Paste the Formula Anywhere! |
Formula allows you to take the generated formula and copy it to the Newton's Clipboard. Once it's on the Newton Clipboard, you can place the Formula virtually anywhere - including other Notes or Works documents.
For the first time ever, you can actually include formatted equations in documents for printing, faxing, email, and even beaming. Equations will even correctly export as images through NCU to desktop word-processors.
Note: This feature works only on 2.1 ROMs and higher.
The beta package |
Formula is in a prototyping stage at the moment. While progress has been made on the interface, and basic symbols, Formula is not a complete product. Major parts of the package have not been written - such as multi-level embedding of symbols (Formula supports only 2 levels).
