Alarmed and Dangerous v1.22 --------------------------------------------------------------------- copyright 1996 Stand Alone, Inc. NOTE: This software is for Newton 2.0 and 2.1 Newtons ONLY. * What's it do? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Alarmed and Dangerous is a set of enhancements to the Alarm features of the Newton, desgined to make them more usable and noticable. It lets you iconify messages, set the duration and frequency of the alarm sounds, and automatically ignore or iconify certain alarms and notifications. It also improves the snooze function and adds several new alarm sounds. * What's in this archive? --------------------------------------------------------------------- There are three Newton software packages and three text files in this archive. They are: * Alarmed.txt document you're now reading. 'Nuff said. * Alarmed.pkg software package you'll install on your Newton. * A & D Sounds.pkg additional sounds * SAStuff.txt A list of all Stand Alone products. * Installing Alarmed and Dangerous --------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, you must get the Alarmed and Dangerous software package onto your Newton. You can do this using the Newton Connection Utility (for Mac or Windows), the Newton Package Downloader, or the Newton Backup Utility. See the documentaion with each of these for more information on installing packages with them. If you wantthe additional sounds, also install the "A & D Sounds" package. * Using Alarmed and Dangerous --------------------------------------------------------------------- After installing Alarmed and Dangerous, it's prefs will replace the "Alarms" prefs of the built-in prefs app, and notifications and alarms will have several new buttons. The new buttons are: an assist button, a "Forget It" button, and a star button. Tapping on the assist button (the lightbulb) will try and interpret the text using the built in Assistant. This is useful if you set alarms such as "Call Bill" or "Meet Jane". Tapping on the "Forget It" button will prevent the notification from being shown again. Tapping on the star button in a notification will automatically move the alarm to the blinking star icon at the top of the screen the next time it's shown. If you tap either of these buttons and decide to change your mind, you can go into the Alarmed & Dangerous prefs, tap the "Edit Lists" button, and edit the notifications that are 'forgotten'. For alarms, the snooze button has several new times, as well as an "until..." selection. This selection allows you to set a time for the alarm to reappear. Tapping on the star button will bring up the same menu as the snooze button. After selecting a time, the alarm will be iconified as a blinking star at the top of the screen until the time specified. Tapping on this star will open up a menu of all iconified items. The new prefs screen has several new options. The alarm sound menu has several new sounds: "Cukoo Clock", "Buzzer", and "High Pitched Beep". These will be installed if the "A & D Sounds" package is installed. There is a separate "Alarm Volume" setting as well. The check box below that allows to use the system volume, or use the Alarmed and Dangerous Volume. The next two items are "Alarm Duration" and "Alarm Sounds are..." The first is used to specify how long the alarm will sound for, and the second is how frequently the sound is played. Selecting "Full screen Snooze button" will make the snooze menu pop up when any part of the alarm is tapped. * Registering Alarmed and Dangerous --------------------------------------------------------------------- You have a 30 day trial period in which to examine Alarmed and Dangerous, during which it will function fully.
