System Update 2.0 (526205)US Read Me MessagePad 130 System Update 2.0 (526205)US This document describes the product enhancements included in the system update file named ÔMessagePad 130 2.0 (526205)USÕ, and has additional information for developers. System Update 2.0 (526205)US is for Apple MessagePad 130 customers in the United States. This version will install over the following system software versions for MessagePad 130: ¥ version 2.0 (525314) ¥ version 2.0 (526060) ¥ version 2.0 (526167) If this system update is already installed on your MessagePad, you will not damage your MessagePad by reinstalling the update. Also, you will not damage an original MessagePad, MessagePad 100, MessagePad110, MessagePad 120 or other Newton PDA if you attempt to install this system update by mistake. Before you install any system update, you should backup your MessagePad 130 with the Newton Backup Utility or to a storage card (PC card). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New changes in System Update 2.0 (526205): ¥ Multi-page documents or faxes now print all pages correctly in landscape orientation. ¥ Fixed a problem causing faxed or printed lines to be truncated in some applications. ¥ Fixed a problem with NBU Restore that would cause error -28207 and the unit to restart. ¥ Fixed a problem identifying some new PCMCIA modems, including the Megahertz CruiseCard XJA3288 28.8 LandLine/Cellular modems. New changes of Interest to Developers in System Update 2.0 (526205): ¥ The use of "protoNewSetClock" will now draw the entire clock graphic properly. ¥ Fixed a problem that would prevent apps other than the I/O Box from owning Comm. Transports (documentation & other support elements to allow private Transports are not available as yet.) ¥ The connection app now properly handles canceling of Keyboard Passthru mode for NCU. Changes of Interest to Developers present in this & earlier System Updates: ¥ Fixed a problem with applications that allocate large Virtual Binary Objects and use them heavily. (This is particularly prevalent with applications that use the Newton Internet Enabler.) ¥ Some internal (not all) elements of the eworld support were removed from the built-in Names app. ¥ Gestalt selector 0x02000007 is defined to return a boolean indicating the presence or absence of a backlight mechanism. ¥ The Calls app now broadcasts soup changes. ¥ Calling SetInputSpec(nil) followed by SetInputSpec(validSpec) works correctly. ¥ AddTag now calls EnsureInternal on its argument so it is safe to scrub a package containing the tag symbol. ¥ Importing unit references from other packages now works even if the importer is activated before the exporter. ¥ Undeclared locals in native functions are no longer mistakenly created as globals, leading to spontaneous resets in some cases. ¥ Fixed a problem with changing sorting orders which could occur when switching between Swedish and English. ¥ Pending alarms no longer trigger immediately after setting the clock to the day of the alarm. ¥ The Stylewriter 1500 and 2500 have been added to the printer list. ¥ A clipping/scaling problem with large pictures has been corrected. ¥ Class 2 faxing now works as expected. © 1996, Apple Computer, Inc.
