Installation Instructions for
MessagePad System Update 1.3 (445333)US

Q. How do I install System Update 1.3 (445333)US?
 A.  BEFORE installing a MessagePad System Update, as precautionary measure you should backup your information. You can do this using your computer and the Newton Connection Kit, or a PCMCIA card. Installing a MessagePad System Update will not normally erase any information in your MessagePad.

Once youÕve backed up your information, install the MessagePad System Update following the instructions below.

Option A - For customers with a Macintosh and Newton Connection Kit for Macintosh
Option B - For customers with a PC running Windows and Newton Connection Kit for Windows


Option A
For customers have a Newton Connection Kit for Macintosh.

1.  Connect your Macintosh computer to your Newton.  (See your Newton Connection Kit manual for instructions.) 

2.  Drag ÒMessagePad 110 1.3 (445333)USÓ onto the Newton Connection icon. 
A message appears telling you to open a connection on your MessagePad.

3. On your MessagePad, tap Extras to open the Extras Drawer, then tap Connection.

4.  In the window that appears, select the type connection you made to your Macintosh.

5. The ÒMessagePad 110 1.3 (445333)USÓ file is installed on your MessagePad. A message appears saying ÒNew system software has been installed. Please tap Restart.Ó

5.  On your MessagePad, tap Restart.

6.  Tap Extras to open the Extras Drawer.

7.  Tap Prefs.

The version number at the bottom of the screen should be 1.3 (445333) if you installed the software successfully.

Option B
For customers who have a Newton Connection Kit for Windows.

1.  Connect your MessagePad to your PC. (See your Newton Connection Kit manual for instructions.) 

2.  On your PC, double-click the File Manager icon to open it, and double-click on the NEWTON.EXE icon.

3.  On your PC, from the Newton menu, choose Install Package.

4. Select MP445333.PKG to install, and click OK.

5. Tap DOS or Windows PC in the list of options, then tap Connect.
The MessagePad System Update 1.3 (445333) is installed on your MessagePad. A message appears saying ÒNew system software has been installed. Please tap Restart.Ó

6.  Tap Restart.

7.  Tap Extras to open the Extras Drawer.

8.  Tap Prefs.

The version number at the bottom of the screen should be 1.3 (445333) if you installed the software successfully.
