Constants


Compression Constants

The constants described in Table 7-5 are used in the compressionType slot of sound frames to specify the encoding format of the sound samples.

Table 7-5 Compression constants
ConstantValueDescription
kSampleStandard0Uncompressed 8-bit samples. This is the only format supported on Newton 2.0 and 1.x devices and corresponds to the value of this slot (kNone) used in those versions of the Newton OS. This is the default.
kSampleMuLaw18-bit samples encoded by the muLaw compressor (reduced from 16 to 8 bits).
kSampleLinear6Uncompressed 16-bit samples. This is the standard format produced by the recording hardware on Newton 2.1 OS devices.
