In an effort to continue to provide continuous value to Newton MessagePad owners who have system version 1.04 or lower, Apple is providing system update version 1.05. This update will work only on original Newton MessagePad PDAs with 1.0 ROMs. The 1.05 System Update will not install (or do any harm) to a MessagePad 100 or later model.

  System update 1.05 will improve memory and power management and will optimize system performance for third party applications and will give users the same functionality as provided by system 1.11.

  In order to install system update 1.05, customers must first back up their information.  The system update will use an additional 32K of system memory to make a more reliable user experience.  Therefore, it is necessary for  customers to back up their information on their computer via Newton Connection Kit.
