QuickFigure Works 1.0 Release Notes 1/13/96 ========================== Copyright 1997, PelicanWare, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Installation ======== QuickFigure Works requires the Newton Works application to be installed to operate. QuickFigure Exchange requires Excel 5.0 or subsequent version. On Macintosh computers, the files "Apple Modem Tool" and "AppleTalk ADSP Tool" must be in the Extensions folder in the System Folder in order for QuickFigure Exchange to operate. If you have installed Newton Connection Utility or Newton Backup Utility, these files should already be in the appropriate folder. Compatibility ============= QuickFigure Works 1.0 is not compatible with worksheets created by QuickFigure Pro, the stand-alone spreadsheet applicaton also made by PelicanWare. However, cells from a worksheet created by QuickFigure Works can be copied and pasted into a QuickFigure Pro worksheet, and vice-versa. QuickFigure Works 1.0 has been tested on Apple eMate 300s and MessagePad 2000s running Newton 2.1. It is *not* compatible with Newton 1.x or 2.0. Known Bugs and Discrepancies ============================ 1. When multiplying large integers within a formula, Works will return the wrong result if the answer is greater than 536,870,912, due to an overflow situation. This will not happen to real numbers, so if a work around is needed, add a decimal point and zero to the number you are multiplying to make it a real number. Values in cells are always treated as real numbers, so this is only an issue in a formula. For instance, the following formula: =123456789*10 would result in an incorrect result. However, =123456789.0*10 would give the proper result. If the value 123456789 were entered into cell C2 and then =C2*10 were entered into another cell, the value would be correct (since values in cells are always treated as real numbers). Documentation errata ============= Several changes were made to the QuickFigure Works documentation following its first printing. The following errata applies to the manual with the November 1996 revision date on its title page. 1. Page 1 mentions the Classroom Connect application for data transfers. This should be called Classroom Exchange. Classroom Exchange may not be compatible with QuickFigure Works. QuickFigure Exchange may be used if this is the case. 2. Page 9 states that items displayed in the overview are sorted alphabetically. This is incorrect, they are sorted in the order that they were created. 3. The syntax of the following functions listed on page 27 has been changed: Log(x) should read Ln(x), Log10(x) should read Log(x). 4. Page 35 states that a chart that is dragged into another application will be reduced to 75% of its normal size. This functionality was changed. Now you must reduce the size of the chart manually by tapping Show and then selecting a size. The chart will not fit into most other applications at Full size, so make it smaller before dragging it out of QChart.
