FalkenDuel 1.0.0B0 for the Apple Newton Beta Warning: This is in public beta... it may still have bugs! Please report errors, missing functions, and the like, so I can improve it. Thanks to St. John Morrison, who's provided a site for it. FalkenDuel (hereafter, simply FD) was written using Newton Tool Kit 1.6.4, ResEdit 2.1.1.3, a Performa 640, the Castle Falkenstein Rulesbook, and my Newton MP120, which runs Newton 2.0 (516263)-1. FD shows up on my newton as a 34K package. I have successfully installed it via NBU, and via NTK. I think I pulled all my debugging print commands. I don't have access to other newton platforms, so I can't test it on them. If you find that they do or don't work, e-mail me at . What FD does: 1) quickly calculates basic Wound Point capacities. 2) quickly, and without having to refer to the tables, looks up dueling results, including resolving Cour de Cour. 3) allows you to use the "Sabres by Physique, Foils by Fencing" option. 4) has an info button which opens a popup about window. (Somebody tell me how to format text in a clParagraph view and I'll happily make the about look better.) That's about all FD does, besides switch to it's proper icon after the first launch. FD has also been my introduction to NTK and NewtonScript. Wow. Getting a working info button was a challenge. 2.0 should have some help, if I can figure out pop-up menus. No release date set. FD is freeware, but if you feel guilty about my 30+ hours of labor spent on this VERY SIMPLE (but I hope elegant) project, please make a donation to either the National Mental Health Association (www.nmha.org) or your local NMHA affiliate (Mental Health Association in ___). Do it in your name or mine; I don't really care which. FD was inspired by St. John Morrison's "Babbage Feat Engine" for the Newton. In fact, I'd reccomend getting it if you are serious about using your Newton as a game aid when running Castle Falkenstein. I would like to hear comments, complaints, etc. If I get more than a few comments, I'll try and put out a new release. there is no real difference (except compression program used and specific file names) between the FalkenDuel4Newton.sit.hqx and NWTFDUEL.ZIP Castle Falkenstein is TM and (C) by R. Talsorian Games. No challenge to these marks is intended. /s/ Wil William F. Hostman aramis@gci.net
